If you can take credit for an economy that wasn't your doing, you can take the blame for external factors as well. Trump's poor response to Covid did a lot of damage to the economy, some areas being strong doesn't change the fact that he wrecked the economy with his poor decision making.
As discussed many times before, Obama’s economy lagged in spite of all the stimulus efforts such as QE 1, QE 2, QE 3, Tarp, ZIRP, Cash for Clunkers, and the 750 billion dollar stimulus package. The reason for this was businesses were scared to make major commitments in hiring and capital investing due to the hostile business environment during the Obama Administration. By hostile business environment, I mean out of control regulations that required businesses to purchase products and services from Democrat aligned entities. Further, any non compliance, whether accidential or not, was often met with draconian fines and penalties. In other words, a hidden tax. Back to Covid. Trump could have gone hardcore and shut things down, including borders, until Covid was eradicated. The global economy would have been completely in shambles, however. Trump could have totally ignored Covid, resulting in massive early spike in cases leading to a significant number of victims without advanced medical care. Trump’s efforts help flatten the curve while saving the economy from collapse. While I am critical of how Trump handled the Covid crisis, Trump’s response may have been influenced by our trading partners and even influential Democrats. No matter who was President, Covid was destined to screw things up. Edit: I left out that due to businesses having confidence in Trump overall, stimulus efforts should be more effective than otherwise.
If Obama's economy lagged then why is Trump's economy with slower job growth and much higher deficit spending considered the 'greatest economy ever'? Obama inherited a shit storm and the stimulus stopped the bleeding, it wasn't supposed to immediately prop back the economy in 4 years. Again, show me the stats to prove this, because I know you are making shit up. "Out of control' regulations, you sound like a Republican politician now. You should read this thread https://www.elitetrader.com/et/thre...started-as-coronavirus-truthers.341840/page-8
For all the slack in the economy during Obama’s terms, the recovery was not impressive. Trump got things to near capacity where further gains are hard to cone by, but he still got them. During which Presidential term did Black unemployment hit all times lows(Hand cupped around ear)? In fact, both Black Unemployment hit record lows month after month, while the stock market hit all time highs month after month during Trump’s Presidency. Hell, just recently some stock indexes hit all time highs. Don’t underestimate the significance of the transportation sector on the health of the economy. For trucks to be busy, there has to be freight.
Again, you are posting opinion, job and GDP growth were smaller under Trump, deficit spending was much higher - just look at the charts, there isn't much to separate things. Black UE fell for 6 years before it hit 'record', do you even know how statistics work? Any mention of record deficit and debt under Trump as well?
Much of the spending that Trump agreed to goes to Democrat social programs while getting money needed to jump start the Covid affected economy. So it appears that you are criticizing Trump’s spending for political reasons while enjoying the benefits of his spending. How disingenuous is that? By the way, what would you consider an appropriate response to Covid? There is a big difference between achieving growth when there is lots of available capacity as during Obama’s term and reaching near capacity During Trump’s term and still making progress until Covid hit. Do you understand the effect of available capacity has on growth rates and how bottlenecks work? A business friendly environment mean more jobs, investment, and growth. I would love to compare legitimate surveys of business owners in Blue states and Business owners in Red states that address how they perceive their business environment.
Again, more bullshit. The biggest reason for the deficit is the huge tax cut while increasing military spending. We are talking about pre-covid here. What most other developed countries did. Again, show me a chart where it shows Trump achieved more growth than Obama, then we can discuss policy implications. Give me a break, red states are moocher states who can't even pay their own bills without blue states subsidy.
The global pandemic continues, with resurgences in many other countries. Besides, the US has very active borders with a population that frequently travels long distances whether it is commuting to work, moving to a new location, or for vacations. The US also has a very active consumer base versus many other countries making Covid a greater problem and more difficult to deal with in the US versus many other countries. The “Huge” tax cut benefits people who work because it increases descretionary income, thus spending and those who own businesses. It stimulates the economy through increased business investment and increased incentives to take on risk and hire employees. You say I bullshit? Government energy projects and military bases cost less to run in Red states. Why wouldn’t we want our government to be efficient about spending? Besides, having some military bases away from the coasts provides some early warning and protection from attack. The problem with such a chart is it does not address the effect of differences in capacity utilization and all the different programs available in the Obama Administration. Trump’s policies have taken the standard of living of minorities and others to new heights. It is through increased economic opportunity that we reduce poverty and improve quality of life of others. Then Covid hit. In the final analysis, the American people will deserve who they vote for. If they vote Trump, they will get someone who supports a business friendly environment, the investment and jobs that go with it, and increased economic opportunity for all. If they vote Biden, they will get fifty years of empty promises of racial and sexual equality while homeless, crime, and poverty in Blue states has continued to rise. Democrats have long said they are for these things but it seems no progress has been made, right. Not exactly a testimonial the Democrat leadership, is it? Yes, a vote for Biden allows the Democrats to gain more power over productive people who may become disincentived to be productive. Where do you think that will leave the rest of us? Hold your nose and vote Trump.
I am talking about pre-covid, the economy was same or a little worse than what Obama left. Nothing but talking points, show me stats to prove this Old talking point. https://slate.com/business/2012/10/blue-state-red-face-guess-who-benefits-more-from-your-taxes.html It's not because of the military, it's because conservatives tend to be less educated and tend to have worse jobs and income You have provided no data, nothing but more talking points Ya, failed business man and reality TV show with multiple bankruptcies is what everyone needs Yea, red states are known for their high equality, less crime and prosperity, thanks for the laughs. Next time post some data instead of these useless rants. Record unemployment, deficits, debt and misery is the result of Trump, nobody sane will vote for him again.
Manipulated statistics are used by those whose arguments don’t stand on their own or who lack common sense. Let’s do a case study. Just one for this post. District of Columbia and surrounds for that matter, an area that votes 90 to 95% for Democrat candidates. An area that has five generations of families on public assistance. An area that Democrats want to make a state so they can add two Senate seats. Democrats have held all branches of power during those five generations of welfare recipients. How is it these people are still stuck in poverty and high crime rates? Democrats talk about helping their Constituents but really they are focused on two things: Getting more power and lining their and connected allies pockets. Look at Joe Biden and family. Look at Obama and Resco. Look at multiple billion dollars paid to a Canadian company for a Obamacare website. It goes on. The Left hates Trump because of his “Drain the Swamp” promise to the American people. The Swamp has been fighting Trump since day one. It is ridiculous to suggest that a career politician like Joe biden has a clue how business works, Obama sure didn’t, compared to a man who has spent his life in business. You charactarize my posts as “Rants”, but that is just another manipulation on your part. I am stating facts and sound reasoning. If Trump gets reelected, we may finally be able to make progress against corruption and excessive partisanship, for Democrat stalling tactics will run out.
