Far be it to me to say the left is incorruptible; one could argue it's more likely to go corrupt due to their tendencies to go unchecked, but this stuff in Brazil is looking pretty sketchy. Basically Lula was locked up on what is arguably trumped up corruption charges, which much of the press everywhere has reported as factual. My biggest beef is people running interference on investigations digging into the corruption allegations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luiz_Inácio_Lula_da_Silva#Corruption_scandals_and_controversy PS: Sentencing judge just became cabinet member for Trupihno
You may want to watch The Mechanism on Netflix covering the 'car wash' scandal. While they say it is fictional, the company names etc. are just barely changed. Lulu was corrupt but it is relative in Brazil where it more about how disruptively corrupt and do they get caught same as the US. The new guy is quite the fascist and may try to become a dictator is a concern several Colombians told me and they are Uribe fans so they don't mind a little tough love.
That will give his security forces access to anyone, anywhere. TBH Cuba is widely perceived as South America's greatest threat. Cuba keeps the Venezuela government functioning providing the big asshole personal security and medical treatment for the top officials and their families etc. Without access to this and for the upper military guys, Maduro would have been eaten already. Bolsonaro's nationalist, authoritarian, racist, misogynistic, anti-press tactic is a clone of *Trump's Hitler inspired system and it will not stop with the Cubans. The rainforest is likely buggered now of course as clearances will go through the roof. *Not a Godwin's law violation, it is literally true so can't be put another way.
President....Brazil.....look at history, he was corrupt in some fashion becasue that is Brazilian politics.
There does not exist a Spanish or Portuguese derived country without deep corruption. It is embedded in the DNA of the seed of their birth.
