It was a meat thermometer, the metal ones.

I was about to throw the apple away cause it was kind of old and well there was a thermo sitting there and was bored

 

In that case, you'd also need to look at both the resolution and the accuracy of the meat thermometer. I'd guess that it's not very accurate/readable at room temperatures...

 

So did the thermometer orgasm, perhaps prematurely?

I was so motivated by this riveting account, I shoved a meat thermometer up my ass to see if I was decomposing. Although the room temp was a normal 72, The thermometer went to "rare", 99 degrees. I think I'm going bad.
