I thought I was fairly transparent... but to clearly answer, NONE. I'm not overly proud, just responding. But, since I started trading Jul/Aug 2008 I'm up 12+%. Yes a whopping +1% for latter 6 months of 2008, but that 12+% for 18 months is considerably better than the aggressive growth fund I was in. Smug... no, proud... no, learning and happy noob... yes.
First half of the year was a bit of a downer, as my automated strategy (which backtested well) just kept refusing to be a consistent winner... instead repeatedly oscillating around $0. Second half of the year turned out very differently. I've been up every month since June, although I didn't size up my account until August. Since August 1st until today, I'm up 15%. Hope next year looks like these last few months!
Well I guess that I had a very good year considering the previous posters... I'm up 51% for this year. The strange part is that I actually consider myself to be a very conservative/selective trader
Not berating you but as a noob perhaps you are still open to learning. Might ought to give some serious study to passive index investing. Index investing is clearly superior for the risks assumed.
i'm not sure what a good way to ever measure this stuff is as return on account isn't really that good of a percentage because if you are trading futures you don't really need much in your account so that % can easily be out of context. i guess return on total capital you'd consider "at risk" is what i'll use and if that is the case i was +55% this year. if you don't ever factor taxes in, which (for my master track record i'm not going to) +17% making it 5 winning years in a row.
up until mid november i was still down for the year, but made a solid push in the past 1 month, and have made it a worthwhile year still. after a personal best in 2008, only made about a tenth of that this year.
very good year. some of it attributable to the volatility, some of it to having increased discipline and becoming a better trader, trusting my exit reads more. though i doubt i'll do as well next year, i'm still getting better as a trader.
Finally someone talking about volatility, most in my group(including me) kept sulking about volume dry up and choppiness through out the year
