California DA paints opponent as ‘Gascón clone,’ vows not to let county become like Los Angeles

A Southern California district attorney running for re-election is aiming to portray his opponent as a clone of George Gascón, the top prosecutor in neighboring Los Angeles County who is facing a recall attempt and backlash from elected officials and crime victims over his prosecutorial directives that critics say has contributed to a rise in crime.

In a campaign video released Thursday, Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer paints Los Angeles as a dirty, crime-ridden city besieged by homelessness while criticizing defense attorney Pete Hardin as being soft on criminals.

"He's already announced exactly the same lines as George Gascón," Spitzer is heard saying in the 2-minute video titled "Gotham." "No bail. No death penalty. No (sentencing) enhancements."

Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg lowers charges in grand larceny case: sources

Claude Myers, 54, had 46 prior arrests on his rap sheet and was on parole when he was caught by the NYPD Thursday, sources said.

“Next time I won’t do it right in front of you,” Myers told the arresting officers, according to a source.

Myers was initially facing several charges, including grand larceny — for removing the property from a person — but the DA’s office downgraded the case to simple petty larceny, the sources said.

He's one of them "smart" mf's. He wants to bring additional attention to it by starting a new thread under false pretext.

Los Angeles prosecutor admits 2-year sentence for child molester may be too lenient

Los Angeles’ top prosecutor acknowledged that a two-year prison sentence for a transgender woman convicted of sexually assaulting a girl at a restaurant may not be long enough — as he faces calls for a recall election over his lenient policies.

District Attorney George Gascón said Sunday that he would have handled Hannah Tubbs’ case differently had he known about her “disregard for the harm” that she caused her 10-year-old victim.

Hopefully Mosby will be in prison herself soon and Baltimore will have a real prosecutors.

    Link

"According to the Baltimore City Police Department 60% of those convicted of gun crimes in the city do not serve any serious time," Hogan says. "They’re simply released back onto the streets to commit violent felonies again and again. This is not and should not be acceptable to anybody."

Nearly one-third of NYC bus riders aren’t paying the fare, prosecutors not charging theft of services any more

Two of the city’s five district attorneys, in Manhattan and Brooklyn, stopped prosecuting transit “theft-of-services” in 2018.

The NYPD however still gives tickets for the violation on subways — some 14,573 in the fourth quarter of 2021 — and occasionally makes arrests. Bus enforcement, however, is non-existent; the Transit Bureau did not issue a single bus fare evasion summons in all of 2021, according to publicly available stats.

Democrat Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg reduces felony charge against criminal who has more than 40 prior arrests

The office of controversial Democratic Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg downgraded charges against a career criminal who snatched cash from a woman in the subway station, according to sources and court records

Claude Myers, 54, who has 46 prior arrests and is on parole, allegedly unzipped the unsuspecting victim's backpack and withdrew $60 on Thursday at about 5 p.m. inside the Lexington Avenue-63rd Street station, according to a law-enforcement source and court papers.

But when prosecutors wrote up the complaint against Myers, the top charge was downgraded from felony grand larceny to petit larceny, court records show. Judge Michael Gaffey ordered Myers released without bail.
