Yup. Now I'd read something into it... Though, today's jump correlates to 10 am news about their advertising platform...which is good news for those of us who are long on market irrationality.
Yeah, lots of (probably well founded) expectation for a big move on their first earnings release. I'll move enough cash in my account to cover a short reserve on a big after hours move to lock profits against my long call.
I think "promise" is a bit strong. What if they only lose a little bit per share? Or what if they lose a lot but have a concrete plan to monetize their system? I would guess we'll see moves of not less than $1 in both directions in after hours. It also wouldn't surprise me to see a big move in one direction after hours and reverse for a big move opposite the following day.
https://www.fool.com/investing/2017/05/04/why-snap-stock-jumped-today.aspx That's the wildcard that, coupled with market irrationality, could send this soaring on even a mediocre earnings release. Fundamentals be damned, there are not enough stoic bears out there to withstand the onslaught of starry-eyed bulls. I'm also much less confident than I was earlier today that we'll see discord between after hours and regular and within after hours itself. I sure hope not. I still have the cash in place to close this one to short and exercise. And a total loss on this is also tolerable.
Despite not so optimistic predictions, I still expect that SNAP will please us at least with an active growth of users and good revenue.
So...cards on the table. What are your positions, what are your hopes, and what are your predictions? I'm long on Jan $25 call and May $27 call. Hoping for an irrational reaction to earnings release and a have a lot of cash in place to support a short position in AHT if this one soars--I'll short the shares for about half my options positions on a good price tonight, and then let the rest ride through tomorrow. No real predictions on price move, but I'm very much hoping for a good release followed by a spike up. Obviously I'll be thrilled with anything above $27.50, but wouldn't short anything less than $29.
