If they are not high profile one is not likely to know unless you work in that field. There are a lot of high profile people who get bail while awaiting appeal.
It is a 5 month sentence.... someone sentenced to 10 years is prison often is not going to be released on bond because of the nature of their crime or time it will take and any appeals take into account time served. This was a misdemeanor crime and he is appealing so there is no reason to keep him in prison for months while waiting to appeal a 5 month sentence, especially if he posts a bond. SO yes.... people can be released on bond while appealing a sentence on such a misdemeanor crime...it has nothing to do with your celebrity status UNDER ILLINOIS LAW YOU CAN APPEAL A SENTENCE AND POST A BOND and walk out of detention. "You are much more likely to receive bail if the crime was non-violent and if you have a minimal recent criminal history. The judge wants to know that the defendant isn’t a risk to the public – including their family or the community at large – if released from prison on bail. Judges also want to ensure that the defendant doesn’t use bond as an opportunity to skip town. They look at your appearance record, ties to the community, and the sentence handed down. This was filing a false criminal report and a 5 month sentence....even if the appeal seems unlikely, the judge can set a high bond and if defendant can meet it, he can go and be released until appeal is exhausted and then he has to serve his time.
An Illinois appellate court ruled Wednesday that the actor Jussie Smollett be released from jail on bond pending his appeal of his conviction for falsely reporting that he had been the victim of a hate crime. Mr. Smollett was sentenced last week to five months in jail, but his lawyers quickly asked a panel of judges to stay the sentence while they appealed the conviction. Mr. Smollett’s lawyers had argued in court papers that the sentence should be stayed because his term would likely be finished before his appeal was completed and that being incarcerated threatened his health and safety. Now we all know the last part about helath and safety is bullshit but the appellate court has no real reason not to grant the request if the bond is posted.
Lori Loughlin will have served more time than him. Not condoning what she and her husband did but, she actually, got locked up for like 2 months and paid huge fines on top of it. Extreme liberals hated her because she was white and not one of them, not an extreme liberal. They adored Felicity Huffman who got a mere, 11 days out of a 2 week sentence. The sentence of two weeks is a big, fat joke and her husband, William Macy was not even charged at all. That is extreme liberal privilege enjoyed by those in Hollywood.
smallfil The two guys already told police that Justin Smollet paid them to stage the fake attack! Now, police are going to interview Justin Smollet! Let him keep lying so that, they can nail him to the wall! Smollet needs to be charged for wasting valuable police resources and they should seek punitive damages of atleast, $500,000 to make an example of him for others! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- College student facing charges after lying to cops about being 'jumped' by Black classmates A college student at Vermont's Middlebury College is facing multiple charges after police found that he lied to them about being "jumped" and assaulted by multiple Black classmates. The Addison County Independent reports that 22-year-old Matthew R. Shanklin told police that between six to ten Black students attacked him while he was walking on campus late at night this past Saturday, which he said resulted in injuries to his leg. However, after an investigation, police determined that Shanklin was the aggressor in the encounter with the Black students, and he attacked them while making "racially charged" statements. According to the Addison County Independent, he now faces charges of providing false information to a police officer, simple assault, aggravated disorderly conduct and hate motivated crime.
