  1. Firstly, I realize you're not referring to me in your post, but this part is the one that's important to me.

I DON'T ENJOY IT ANYMORE. I've finally reached the point where I can admit that to myself and understand fully that I smoke because I am addicted to smoking. Period. End of story. Its a habit. And it is THIS realization that makes me inclined to finally quit the damn things once and forever.

I'm going to do it this weekend, Friday will be my last day smoking. Done. Cold turkey. I started this thread I guess, in part, because I needed encouragement from folks with the same mindset as me, i.e., other traders and smokers.

I thank all who responded (even Raskolnikov). Wish me luck. I'm sure going to need it.

    Regards to everyone,

    Bo

I smoked for 5 years...read this book (Easy Way to Stop Smoking) and quit. I am not peddling snake oil. It is free to download on any ebook search engine.

Supplemented my reading with 3 days of patches...decided to quit smoking transdermally :) and hit the gym.

Give it a shot. Worked for me.

    :)

  3. Bravo to all of you who managed to quit ... probably added years to your lives.

I imagine we all have a guilty pleasure or 2 to get us through the day, but with so many choices (e.g. chocolate, glass of wine, gay porn  ), why choose an obvious and proven killer?

  4. That's where I was after 18 years of smoking. Every time I lit up, I said, "I don't even want this. Why am I doing this?"

Do it man. You're in the perfect spot, rock bottom as someone else said. You want to quit, some people don't.

I second whyquit.com, it's good motivation. Read an article from it every day and it will help.

After you've quit awhile, among all the other benefits, the feeling of superiority when you see others smoke is enough to keep you quit.

  5. Smoking has to be one of the most stupid things that a person can do. Smokers should be required to wear clown shoes when lighting up.

  7. OP, smoking cigarettes is a very serious addiction, quitting can take years as you are finding out. When you have tried all and failed, go ahead and spend $250.00 with http://www.annepenman.com/.

It worked for me. It gave me a 'time window' of not feeling the urge for a few days, enough to quit without ever feeling any urge again. But I was ready.

Putting up the money will be a serious motivator too.

Nowadays I can't understand why it was so difficult to quit such a disgusting habit and feel empathy for the people who suffer of this addiction.

I have to agree with Mike here. I smoked for 15 years and then quit back in 1998. I just stopped cold turkey(one of the toughest things to do) but never allowed myself to even have one more cigarette. I knew if i had just one cigarette later on i would start allowing myself more and more leeway back into addiction. If you dont allow yourself to have one more cigarette then you'll never start back up again.

    hope that helps
