Slow Computer: RAM??

Discussion in 'Hardware' started by CPTrader, Sep 10, 2010.

  1. Also... forgot to mention:

If you haven't done so already...

Win7 by default uses those aero schemes (like translucent windows title bar, 3D task selection, the whole 9 yard. All those are CPU hogs. Eye candies. I have turned them all off and get back to the basics (like solid blue windows title bars). If you are still using the default settings, turn them all off to help your computer performance.

  2. To capture the image:

When the Resource Monitor app is up, do a Alt-PrintScreen to capture it. Start Microsoft Paint. Do a control-V to paste it to Paint. Then do a SaveAs, give it a file name. "Resource.png" or something.

On ET, when you post a reply there is a button "Choose File" at the bottom. Click on it to include your image file attachment.

Refer to this thread for more instructions:

  6. Win7 only:

Turn off the automatic aero peek and other stuff:
    1) Go to System Properties (right click "Computer" in an explorer window and do properties)
    2) Click Advanced System Settings
    3) you should be on the Advanced Tab, in the performance section, click "Settings..."
    4) Uncheck "Enable Aero Peek" (or better yet uncheck everything)
    5) click OK

  7. Standby is >850MB. May not be too bad. But did see a few hard faults. If this is constantly spiking, then CPU is spending a lot of time swapping/paging data to disk from memory.

As I thought... a lot of Internet Explorer instances. Each ate up a chunk of your virtual memory. Be careful these days: many web pages have advertisements. They run some java programs, play video, animation, sound clips, etc... eat up your resources like a gazzoo. Best to minimize those usages. Exit them when you are no longer viewing. Keep viewing to only 1 or 2 windows. Especially those with advertisement stuff.

See what else you can trim down.

  9. You are crazy...I do not watch porn on my computer or anywhere else. I just have a lot of tabs open..newssites, webmail, market sites, forums, etc. I do have too many tabs open. Like Bolimomo says I need to trim down the use. I am ashamed to admit i have dozens of tabs open right now.

  10. Some members on ET are very uncivilized. See what I needed to put up with whenever I mentioned I have many LCD screens? That's the first thing that came out of their mouth. The second thing is "what you need that for?".
