I take a slow release metformin 1000mg a day, when I went I went to California, didn't bring them, but when I got back and started taking them again I did feel the benefit, noticeably. No gut issues. I do have a bit of a sweet tooth.
That suggests that you eat what you probably shouldn't. I'm curious to know what that it, given that you won't even eat fruit.
Not anymore. At first, Metformin was very helpful with long COVID. I got Covid (didn't know at the time but was clear after) in late December 2019, and it really affected my pancreas. From February 2020 to June, I had noticeable pre-diabetic symptoms. The virus seemed to damage some of my pancreatic cells, but those symptoms eventually faded. More than two, nearly three years later, I still felt a bit sugar-sensitive, and at the time, Metformin was considered one of the best treatments for long COVID. I found that I just felt a little better on it, and it's very cheap here, twelve bucks for 30 tablets of 1000mg extended-release. I've stopped taking it for a month a couple of times just to see how I felt without it, but each time I ended up going back on it. It smooths out blood sugar swings and slightly reduces appetite. It definitely reduced the systemic inflammation I was becoming a martyr to. I'd regard it as an candidate for "essential" for men over 50 if they have any bit of a sweet tooth or get sugar lows. It's probably useful for people quitting smoking in this regard as cigs have a similar smoothing effect on insulin.
There we go, Metformin works for Marlboro mice. Wish I knew about it when I was failing to quit a few years. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/new...s-drug-may-also-help-with-nicotine-withdrawal A good way to explain it, the benefits of smoking, hunger suppression, mood stabilising, without the cancer.
That's went I went from helping fund a hospice to volunteering in it. Not true any more but 25 years ago, many hospice workers smoked. It's a great stress reliever and scrambles the recording of a sharp edged emotional memory a bit, reduce how vividly its encoded.
