Science, the art of the educated guess.

  2. Science, the "art" of statistically valid and controlled studies. Peer-reviewed and repeatable. :p

I can fall asleep fine, but don't sleep too much, 4-5 hours top. Could be aging. Baron said something similar...

That is why I was so surprised that I slept close to 12 hours although with interruptions...

There is no way to thoroughly control for all the confounds in a study related to human performance or behavior....all we can do is the best we can do. No credible scientist would deduce proof from even the strongest of correlations with regard to the above.

  5. Okay, just that it has never been proven in a controlled environment. So you have to wonder how much the placebo effect may have been at play. Not that there is anything wrong with that, since placebos are great when they work. Who knows, maybe it will be scientifically proven in the future. It just hasn't been done yet.

  6. But making the effort is the first step in the right direction. Until then, it's all goji juice to me.

Just to be clear. Are you denouncing the scientific method?

"Just as dramatic are the studies involving ACV’s potential for controlling weight. The Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry reported a study6 on mice that were fed a high-fat diet along with the active ingredient in apple cider vinegar: acetic acid.

The animal subjects ended up with 10 percent lower body weight than the control subjects."

"A recent study showed that three groups — adults with pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes and healthy people — after taking an ounce of ACV, all had lower blood glucose levels when they ate a high-carb meal consisting of a white bagel with butter and a glass of orange juice; again, compared with a placebo rather than the cider vinegar.

But there’s more: Those with pre-diabetes improved their blood glucose levels by almost half, and the subjects with type 2 diabetes cut their blood glucose levels by 25 percent."

    I'll be damned!!!

Frederick brought up ACV in the Cissus thread, asking me if I was still taking it. Well, as it turns out, I have great enthusiasm when I start out a new supplement, but I usually get lazy about, so the short answer is no. But his mentioning it made me start to take it again.

I only took it once (well, yesterday I drunk some non-ACV vinegar) today and my tennis elbow pain is gone 90%!!! Now this has been bothering me for 3 weeks or so, thus the coincidental chance of the pain going away just the exact time after I took ACV is pretty low.

Currious about it, I googled "tennis elbow ACV":

    "
    Apple Cider Vinegar/Olive Oil Applications
Like ice massage, a mix of apple cider vinegar and olive oil constitutes another therapeutic technique to reduce tennis elbow pain. Apple cider vinegar and olive oil contain anti-inflammatory antioxidants. The vinegar has potassium, magnesium, calcium and phosphorus. Potassium works especially well to deter joint stiffness. Olive oil has anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids.

Mix two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with one tablespoon of olive oil and gently rub the mixture on the sore elbow following each ice massage. Allow the vinegar and oil to soak into the skin to erase elbow pain."

OK so this is external usage, but I don't see why it couldn't help internally too. So thanks Frederick, we learnt something new today. Oh yes, and I also took an afternoon nap.... :)
