Trading Thoughts for 1/19/09 Looking for a 5%-10% gain this week in these stocks. RRGB KV.A JAZZ FTBK DAN TUES This goes against my strategy in that I only wanted to pick one or two stocks at a time, but I'm still too nervous to "get back into the game" at the moment. Once I see how these perform based on my different analysis techniques, I will hopefully be able to get off the bench. So I guess it's safe to say that I am paper trading at the moment?
I know it's a little "after the fact" but I wanted to put my picks for the day out here for future reference. WRLS (Closed up 5.3%) HUSA (Closed up 5.68%) ASPM (Closed up 5.20%) CHIC (Closed down 1.2%) MWE (Closed up 11.45%) Here's the strategy that I looked at: For these picks, I looked for a PE Ratio of between 1 and 20, Closed lower than previous day opening for the 7 previous days in a row, and had increased momentum the day before the pick. Any thoughts on this?
CBB - (Closed Down 7.14) AXL - (Closed Up 10.88) CTBK - (Closed Down 4.77) INWK - (Closed Down 3.75) BBW - (Closed Down 7.37) RICK - (Flat)
I narrowed by strategy by playing with the PE ratio. This time it selected ATRM and AXL (again). ATRM Closed Flat, which is understandable because of the low volume. AXL closed up 11% again today. I'm going to follow this strategy throughout next week to see if it will produce indicators that I like.
Big gap down on opening, but closed up 6.05% from previous day close. Had I bought at the opening price of 3.26 I would have seen a 20% gain.
RRGB - Up 18.95% from when I was looking at it. KV.A - Down 79.35% from when I was looking at it. JAZZ - Down 20.77% from when I was looking at it. FTBK - Up 4.24% from when I was looking at it. DAN - Up 8.20% from when I was looking at it. TUES - Down 17.76% from when I was looking at it. 3 Up. 3 Down. But I was interested mostly in RRGB because of it's trend pattern and it's balance sheet.
Unfortunately, I bought into KV.A and held it just long enough to see one of the biggest drops that I have ever seen on an equity (80%). Buy and hold was not the strategy for this one. Fortunately it was a speculative position with a minimal investment lost. Nevertheless, I lost big time on this one! So now I sit with an equity that's trading for less than it's intrinsic value. From the balance sheet, I see an intrinsic value of nearly 9.37 per share; (Total Assets - Liability) / shares outstanding. Here nor there, I'm too stubborn to sell it now. Maybe it's a good investment for my son's first car (which I won't need for about 10+ years)
