Yes, the 2nd Login keeps trying to Login but can't.

2. Why don't you use one of the third party applications eg QT, Button trader et etc. TWS doesn't limit the number of applications that simulaneously connect using the API. Ask the vendors about it.

3. When you try to login a second time on a different machine, the two TWS instances will essentially fight with each other, each one will keep booting the other off. You also cannot log into webtrader if you're already logged into TWS, it says that on the IB website.

You need to log into the account management website and subscribe to the market data using the second account username and password to see market data for the second account (you can log into TWS before that but cannot get quotes).

4. Sanjuro,

I've done it...you go under Account Administration -> User Functions then you create a new account. Then you log into account management again with the new account login and password you choose, and subscribe to market data there too. Then when you log into TWS with the new ID you'll see the data.

It can definitely be done -- I just did it using two instances of TWS.

Also IB does limit the number of API connections to 8. This has been well documented on their message boards.

SSB is correct. You'll need to create a second login as per the instructions provided above.

6. Steve,
So if I create a second user for an account, then I can have 2 instances of TWS running the same account on different computers at the same time (1 acct, 2 users, 2 pc's)?

7. I'll take a shot (I'm not Steve, but I hope I'll do :)

Yes you're correct you will log into the two instances of TWS with different user ids, but they will both be connected to the same trading account. One user should be able to see orders submitted by the other user (I can't verify this until the market closes as I don't want to risk messing with my automated trading system).

Good deal ---I had this question before and figured out that I needed to open up a second account! This must be a new feature?

When I get a new laptop ---I am trying this out.

SSB,
Do you get another 100 symbols with the second login? From what I have read ---on your account --if there was NOT $60 dollars of commission ($30 *2) you would have to pay a $10 dollar data fee per account? Correct?

9. I'm not sure about the other 100 symbols but if you're on the hook for the fee then yes I'd expect to get another 100 symbols for the second user account.

The way they explained it to me yes you need $60 in commissions or you get hit with $20 in fees ($10 per account). I trade enough that's never been an issue so I can't be sure.

As far as I know it's not a new feature -- just a very poorly documented existing feature

Steve if you're reading this (or def) can you update the documentation on this? Or maybe set up an FAQ page so this kind of info (such as the stuff above saying you cannot do it) can be easily refuted with a link to IB?

Steve,

Since there is a data charge. Is there another 100 symbols with this feature? Are you restricted to the symbols of the first login???
