From the CDC site on antibody presence. But I suppose you'll tell us now how the CDC isn't a reliable site. Maybe DeSantis is manipulating data here. We do not know yet if people who recover from COVID-19 can get infected again. Scientists are working to understand this.
Sometimes I think it is better to just post "FALSE" and be done with it. You actually might have the smartest way of dealing with these folks. Its not like they actually listen to anyone's viewpoint besides their own no matter how much data and information you bring to the engagement. I don't know why I bother.
Once again.... COVID-19 Antibodies May Disappear In As Little As Two Months, According To New Study https://www.inquisitr.com/6128544/covid-19-antibodies-disappear-two-months/ Antibodies to COVID-19 may disappear in some patients in as little as 2 months, according to a new study. As ABC News reported, the findings may dash hopes that so-called “immunity passports” could allow individuals to travel freely. Antibodies are proteins produced by the body’s immune system as protection against pathogens such as viruses or bacteria. When a person is sickened by a virus — or administered an inactive or weakened pathogen via a vaccine — the body produces antibodies, which can then fight off the pathogen should it re-infect the patient later. However, a team of researchers from Chongqing Medical University in China has found that — in the case of COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus — it appears that in some patients, those antibodies can fade away in as little as two months. In effect, that means that a patient who gets sick with COVID-19 and then recovers can get sick from it again, rather than being immune from it for the rest of their life. In the study, researchers compared the immune responses of 37 people who had been diagnosed with COVID-19 but had no symptoms, to 37 patients who had the disease and were showing symptoms. Among the patients who weren’t sick, 40 percent had no antibodies in their system just 2 months after they were diagnosed. By comparison, among the sickened patients, just 13 percent had lost their antibodies in the same time frame. The study’s findings seem to back up what the medical community has suspected for some time: that being exposed to the coronavirus once, and even coming down with COVID-19, doesn’t necessarily mean that the patient can’t get it again. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious-disease specialist, said previously that data seems to indicate that antibodies to the coronavirus family of viruses can fade in as little as 3-6 months. “When you look at the history of the common coronaviruses that cause the common cold, the reports in the literature are that the durability of immunity that’s protective ranges from 3 to 6 months to almost always less than a year.” The study’s findings also seem to deal another blow to the concept of so-called “immunity passports” — which is to say, a sort of theoretical documentation that a person has developed immunity to COVID-19 and thus can travel freely or return to work. ========================================================================== Both COVID-19 and the common cold are coronaviruses... Why Don’t We Ever Develop Immunity Against the Common Cold? https://www.technologynetworks.com/...velop-immunity-against-the-common-cold-294551 ========================================================================== The most closely controlled study of COVID-19 has been the USS Theodore Roosevelt which the military and public health organizations have studied in depth. It is now quite clear that 40% of those infected with COVID-19 never develop antibodies. This obviously demonstrates that "natural herd immunity" is a myth. A vaccine will be required to provide herd immunity with follow-up testing after the vaccine to ensure antibodies are present. The results are not surprising since other coronavirus variants such as the common cold do not lead to the development of anti-bodies in many humans -- which is why individuals can catch the common cold over and over again. This lack of antibodies in 40% of those who have been infected obviously is associated with the re-infection of 14 sailors based on medical commentary. The 40% figure is among a young, healthy population -- the percentage who fail to develop anti-bodies in a older population is most likely higher. The results found across the USS Theodore Roosevelt sailors puts a stake through the heart of the "natural herd immunity" nonsense and obviously failed public health policies promoted by countries such as Sweden. Even in a group of entirely healthy young people, only 60% of those infected with coronavirus developed antibodies https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-infected-uss-theodore-roosevelt-antibodies-2020-6 A severe coronavirus outbreak hit the USS Theodore Roosevelt, a Navy aircraft carrier stationed in the Pacific, in late March and April. Nearly one-quarter of the carrier's 4,800-person crew was infected. A new study shows that one in every five infected sailors showed no symptoms, and just 60% of those infected developed coronavirus antibodies. The researchers also found that sailors who wore face masks, avoided common areas, and practiced social distancing were less likely to become infected. The sailors aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt are young and healthy, with few underlying medical conditions. That didn't stop the coronavirus from wreaking havoc aboard the Navy ship, infecting nearly one-quarter of the 4,800-person crew in late March and April. The severe outbreak forced the Navy ship to dock in Guam for two months, while every crew member was tested and 80% of the ship was cleaned and disinfected. Now, new research published Tuesday from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reveals what conditions aboard the cramped carrier facilitated that spread. The study found that one in every five infected sailors had no symptoms, and just 60% of a group of infected crew members developed antibodies that could neutralize the virus. "This finding may give us an early glimpse into actual immune protection against [the coronavirus] in young adults having these intense viral exposures aboard the ship," Daniel Payne, a CDC epidemiologist and the study's lead author, told Stars and Stripes. The USS Theodore Roosevelt reported its first COVID-19 cases on March 24, docking a few days later in Guam so more than 80% of the crew could be evacuated ashore and isolated in hotels to prevent further spread Testing showed that 1,273 of the carrier's nearly 4,800 crew members were infected, most of which had mild or no symptoms (several sailors, however, were hospitalized and one died). Only 382 of those 1,273 infected sailors volunteered to participate in the CDC study. Between April 20 and 24, those 382 sailors filled out questionnaires about their habits aboard the ship and provided samples for antibody testing. Three-quarters of that cohort were male crew members, about 60% were non-Hispanic white, and their average age was 30 years. Antibody tests revealed that nearly 60% of those 382 study participants had developed neutralizing antibodies, proteins that help our bodies disable the invading virus. In several infected sailors, those antibodies were still detectable more than 40 days after they started showing symptoms, which the study authors said was "a promising indicator of at least short-term immunity." The value of this study, Payne said, is that it's the first to examine how the virus spreads within a group of young, healthy adults — a cohort at far less risk of developing severe coronavirus cases than older individuals with preexisting health problems. The carrier's antibodies results go against scientific evidence suggesting that nearly everyone who has had COVID-19 — regardless of age, sex or severity of illness — should develop antibodies. One May study found that 20 coronavirus patients, including two people with severe cases that required hospitalization, all developed antibodies to fight the virus. The average age of those patients was 44. For now, it's unclear why the remaining 40% of young, healthy participants from aboard the Navy carrier didn't have these neutralizing proteins. About one in five infected sailors were asymptomatic Payne and his colleagues found that 18.5% of the 382 study participants, so roughly one in five, showed no symptoms despite being infected. Among the 284 symptomatic sailors, loss of smell and taste were the most common symptoms, followed by fever and chills. The risk of infection was double for crew members who shared a berth with someone who'd tested positive. The CDC study authors also found that sailors who reported wearing face masks were less likely to become infected, as were those who avoided common areas and practiced social distancing. Now that the USS Theodore Roosevelt is back on active duty in the Pacific, these findings could inform additional safety and health precautions onboard. Navy officials are now working to "tailor our public health practices to the unique characteristics of this adversary whose secret weapon, as you know, is the ability to be transmitted by an individual before they know they're infected," Rear Adm. Bruce Gillingham, the US Navy surgeon general, said in a Tuesday media briefing. Taking the time to highlight the most important word in your fear spreading campaign. No need to thank me. COVID-19 Antibodies May Disappear In As Little As Two Months, According To New Study
This just in, DeSantis's failure to address crisis has led to a spike in North Carolina Covid cases. Witnesses say that Trump also at fault and was seen fleeing the scene of the crime in back of DeSantis's Ford F150 with Florida plates. Authorities are investigating. Still unknown as to whether DeSantis played any part whatsoever in the jump in cases in Tokyo, though we had heard that this was one of those countries that "did everything properly" so we are unsure if we can blame him or not yet. Still, DeSantis probably had something to do with it, as he likes old Godzilla films (though he is racist and always roots for Rodan) North Carolina 3rd State To Report Record Jump In COVID-19 Cases As Trump Changes Mind On Masks: Live Updates Summary: North Carolina reports record jump in COVID-19 cases Cali orders 19 counties to close Trump does U-turn on masks California orders 19 counties including LA to close restaurants dining for 3 weeks Apple closes another 30 stores Atlanta Airport closes California reports another record jump Houston ICUS at 102% capacity Nevada reports third-highest daily total yet NY releases Wednesday numbers Arizona reports another record daily case count NYC delays return of indoor dining Florida reports daily cases for last 24 hours Goldman says 40% of US has rolled back economic reopening or put them on hold Oxford scientist warns vaccine by end of year far from guaranteed Pfizer vaccine headline sends futures higher US reported 48k+ new cases yesterday Australia locks down 300k in Victoria Brazil imposes travel ban as deaths near 60k Tokyo reports most cases since state of emergency lifted German infection rate below R for 7th day
So you better be sure you don't develop your national strategy around something like "natural herd immunity". You also better understand that people may get infected multiple times before a vaccine is developed -- so your public health strategy better not cause uncontrolled spread of a highly infectious disease as represented by a rapidly accelerated case count.
Yes.... and our NC Governor Cooper is on TV right now addressing the COVID-19 situation in a calm manner driven by statistics & science. Our state has had a much more cautious data-driven approach to re-opening than Florida and other highly infected states. Our bars and gyms are closed. We have face masks required state-wide. Our restaurants are only open for 50% capacity with clear requirements on how they operate. Due to the rising cases -- any decision on K-12 school re-openings in August has been delayed.
In the US, we have 50 states, each with a governor able to resort to dictatorial powers? And each state governor doing what they damn please? If those countries had 50 states, like the US, would they have less infections and deaths or more? It is an apples to oranges comparison.
