Who was most harmed by the repeal of prohibition? The bootleggers and "rumrunners". The drug cartels are a lot more organized and run by more ruthless and certainly better educated and more intelligent "entrepreneurs" than Al Capone ever aspired to be. There is more to this than right and wrong. The "Drug war" is a very complex issue. Ask Ollie North. Seems like the US doesn't want to stop the inflow of drugs form South America.....they just want a say in controlling it. Peace, Rs7
Not if drugs are legal and prices drop so drastically that there is no more than ordinary profit margins like in corn or wheat...you seem to be missing my logic here....now if the dealers come to your house and force you to buy drugs ( hahahahahahahaha ) that would be labled extortion "another lucrative business"...cmon hapa you are smater than that...peace
C'mon Cubano! YOU are smarter than that! What I'm trying to point out is that merely dropping the price is not going to deter the cartels from doing all they can to retain as much market share as they can! And, because drugs are cheaper, there are going to be MORE addicts! I guess this is another of those "we'll never agree" situations. Always a pleasure to spar, though!
From Hapaboy: "It is a myth that the crime rate rose as a result of Prohibition. What is true is that there was an increase in the homicide rate, BUT this was primarily due to a spike in crime in the African-American community, and that community was not largely involved in alcohol trafficking." That is complete utter bullshit that you are making up!
Oh? Please elaborate. If you call someone a liar you ought to be able to at least offer the conflicting information.
Of course it will....why would they want market share when there is no money to be made ( at least not the type of money they are used to making )... The Cartel would be in direct competiton with our farmers which will produce the legal substance and they dont even have to ship it across the atlantic.....so many people would start producing it that there will be more supply than before ( 100 times more if not 1000 times more ) causing profit margins to deteriorate....hence no more lucrative business for the Cartel to enjoy...they would just find other businesses with more profit margin usaully something that's "ILLEGAL".....damn you are one stubborn motha.....peace
From one stubborn motha to anotha: If "so many people...start producing it that there will be more supply than before (100 times if not 1000 times more) causing profits to deteriorate," then why oh why, Brother Cubano, would farmers even bother producing the stuff? By your very scenario, the price would drop to such ridiculously low levels that the profit margins themselves would scale back to correspondingly low levels. If the price is to remain at an amount that would not only make it worthwhile for farmers to continue making it but for taxes imposed on it to be marginally substantial, that price is not going to be dirt cheap. Besides, it is my understanding that drugs are relatively cheap now anyways. Of course I'm not positive about this - maybe Fluid can check with his Philly set and get us a price quote from the specialists on the corner....But how low can they go under legalization and still be marginally profitable for farmers and the government? Peace!
because the price would drop as more farmers start producing it....as in anything there will be profit margin ( enough to be happy ) until more and more farmers produce it, till one day the profit margins will be like that of any plant or farm product ( coke comes from a plant you know ) close to nothing or not enough for the Cartels to make what they need to make to not invest in other more lucrative "illegal" products....peace....
you didn't offer any "information" to contradict ! You don't know anything beyond "say no to drugs". Learn some things before you speak on the subject. My INFORMATION is history and experience of reality, you are full of BS propaganda, you have no INFORMATION to offer !
