The original article is the author's discussion re why he hopes to die by 75. He's quite clear about not advocating that for others.
if all he was writing about was his concern about dying a slow death... he would be writing about Dr. kervorkian and strategies for suicide or medial directions of those in comas. the point of this article is that govt has to now make those choices... "Even the idea of rationing health care to save money feels offensive or morally wrong to many of us. And the idea of denying medical treatment to a patient based on age or prognosis is not any less controversial. Remember the talk of "death panels" charged with deciding which patients got medical care and which wouldn't? It's scare tactics like this that stymied the conversation decades ago and raised their ugly head again in the recent ACA debate. But as more and more people join the ranks of the elderly every day, this is a conversation that needs to be had. Daniel Callahan, senior research scholar and president emeritus/co-founder of the Hastings Center -- a research institute dedicated to the study of bioethics -- proposed in his 1986 book "Setting Limits: Medical Goals in an Aging Society" that there be a cap on expensive medical treatments for people at age 80. The author of 17 books recalls how that proposal propelled him to fame -- or perhaps infamy."
Just as good as anyplace to put this. Just got back from my colonoscopy, 3rd one. All clean, so I guess I'll live a few more years, or at least won't die from colon cancer. Here's some tips for those of you who have not had one done. The procedure is easy, it's the prep that is all the work. Here's what you'll learn during the prep. Bowel control is limited to 5 feet. Any further from a toilet and...well, you get the picture. 2nd. There is no such thing as a dry fart during prep.:eek: BTW, The doctor and I are now dating.
I'm not surprised given your other posts that you don't understand the point of the article. Hint: it's not about how government has to make the choices.
Well, this is really the final test for the elites who control us. They know we will willingly give up our freedom, dignity and independence in exchange for free food, health care, contraceptives and cell phones. They have proven that they can remake our country any way they choose, borders and sovereignty be damned. Now, they will see if we have been so conditioned to be like livestock that we will willingly march to our own deaths. All in service to the greater good however. Your kids were relentlessly indoctrinated in "service" all their lives and how important it is to "volunteer" for whatever the state is pushing. As a result, they will be quite receptive to the message that the elderly are such a needless burden, on themselves as well as society and they really should be gently pushed toward doing the right thing.
