I appreciate the author's premise that when reaching a certain age, the best course may be to avoid doctors. One of my grandmothers spent her last 6 months in an assisted living facility following a broken hip and deteriorating after the surgery. As hard as the experience was mainly for my Mom and Grandmother, I don't see how it could have played out any better given the situation. One night my mom got a call saying that my Grandmother was not doing well as her Kidneys were beginning to fail. They let her die with my Mom by her side. If she had been in a hospital they probably could have kept her a live a few more months. Thank god that did not happen as she was in bad shape. fan27
Interesting points. The younger generations DEMAND "free everything". The Boomers NEVER DID THAT. They were given "unsolicited benefits for political gain". Can't blame the Boomers for not being savvy and righteous enough to reject those benefits and say "no thanks... harmful to future generations". Only about 15% of us pay attention. The others, from all generations, are basically clueless... for a variety of reasons. It's not the Boomers' fault that they are the biggest generation. Not accounting for all the good they did for the economy and growth of America (taxes paid, jobs created... even today, Boomers are the biggest supporter of the economy and jobs.... and biggest payers of taxes. If the Boomers died off suddenly, the US economy would collapse overnight), government greed and poor planning made a mess of things.
I can't believe that Scat wrote something I agree with (more or less). I'm going to have to go lie down for a while.
There's a lot of blame to go around but it's my contention that we can't let the younger generation off the hook, as achilles seems to want to do. Obama has added more debt to the tab of the federal gov't than all previous presidents combined and it is the younger generation who put Obama in office. It seems to me that they bear as much responsibility for the mess as anyone.
