You're still blaming the wrong folks. WAKE UP! And BTW... The Boomers are NOT getting the benefits you think. We're gettin' HOSED also.. there isn't enough money to pay for what was "promised" by greedy politico bastards. Regardless of what future generations presume to understand, the Boomers are getting FUCKED OVER ALSO! Just like every generation to which follows. The only ones who "get over" on the GREAT SOCIAL PROMISE.. are the generation BEFORE the Boomers... not by design... they mostly lucked out.
as a boomer on the cusp of being a non boomer, I felt it was my right to state that the woodstock generations is the biggest group of takers and leftist destroyers I could have imagined. However, over time... I believe we could have afforded to let them be takers... had we not had 700 percent inflation or more over my lifetime. The idea that the dollar was in so much demand all over the world... and that we still had 700 percent inflation is a cruel theft from the last 2 generations. Until recently the government borrowed the money so that should have kept inflation very low. There was massive demand for the dollar from all over the world for international banking and for all the countries who needed a currency. The dollar should have appreciated strongly from 1960s levels when coffee was a nickel and cars were 4000 - 6000. Instead of imports going down and the dollar being stronger... someone printed so many dollar coffees are not less than a nickel they are a few dollars? Which private group got the benefit of pumping out trillions of dollars all over the world and devaluing our currency so tremendously. Can you believe what has been done to those that saved and worked hard. Then on top of that... massive taxation. I no longer blame the boomers... at all.
I totally get the sentiment, but in doing so you could be voting to keep Harry Reid as Senate Majority Leader or Nancy Pelosi as Speaker. You could be giving obama the votes he needs to get Eric Holder confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice.
We Boomers are mere convenient scape goats for later generations. We never asked/demanded ANY BENEFIT from the government... it was simply legislation passed to garner our vote... just like the "open southern border".. REGARDLESS OF THE SUBSTANTIAL RISK TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC... Politicos made it law (for their own greedy, power-hungry reasons), and we just lined-up like a gaggle of baby ducks. Whatever the Boomers are, we're not smart/aware enough to protest "stop giving us stuff.. financed by deficit.. and paid for by our kids/grand kids"... Politicos say, "Lemme give you THIS... so you'll be indebted to our party for the largess". American voters are not smart nor discerning enough to vote other than what's offered/given to them/us. I wish it were not the case. I wish every citizen PAID ATTENTION... but we don't, sadly.
I agree. I don't want the government making the choices, but we should have choices, up to and including the Dr. Kevorkian choice. I say this not as a young man, so it's closer for me than many posting here. Everyone thinks, or at least hopes they're going to live this long and healthy life. We're all going to be in great shape until sometime around 85-90. Then we're going to wake up one day feeling fine, get ourselves a nice BJ, head out to the gold course and drop dead of a heart attack after sinking a 60 foot put on the 18th green. Hey, if it works out that way great, but what if? I have no interest in clinging to some last gasp of hope that brings me another month or two of sucking air, and not much else. Nope, I'd be happy to cash it all in and see what's next. I should have that choice and have it done without having to do it myself. Should there be some hoops to just through before one can make that call? Of course, but in the end, it's my life and it's my call, as it should be for us all.
One more thing on the Boomers are bums attitude. As an older man I now find it amusing that every generation coming up thinks that they're the very first to discover the bullshit of it all. This government went south a long time ago, long before me, and certainly long before the millennials came along, and we the people have been protesting all along the way. Seems to be an exercise in futility, but occasionally some good comes of it. Rarely, but it does happen. And on the subject of Social Security? Hell, if you would have asked me 30 years ago if I thought there would be anything left when I got there I would have laughed and said hell no. Somehow the powers that be keep the boat floating. Will they be able to keep it floating for another hundred years? Who the hell knows. What I do know is neither you or I will have much of substance to do with it. There are a very few players in this game and a shitload of spectators. If you're reading this...sorry, there's an extremely high probability that you ain't one of the players. Just how it is.
to a leftist big govt troll its now a conspiracy to to point out the massive inflation or crazy govt spending caused by the govt's cronies. as if the middle class has not been crushed by inflation. there is some sort of inflation fairy making big govt policies look bad and stealing from the working class.
