    To release unsubstantiated "news" from unnamed sources and move the market. Usually done late Friday or during thin trading or both.

  5. actually, the uptick rule exasherbated the 1929 debacle, and in current markets as fluid as they are with so many derivatives and alternate markets, the uptick rule actully helps the downturn get done and out of the way faster instead of prolonging it over a few weeks of step-down trading....

    strange how it actually helps instead of hurts this time around
