Should Americans be ashamed of their country for not talking care of their allies in Afghanistan?

Today was Taliban's day. The question is what happens tomorrow when Taliban needs to start to govern. The optimistic view Afghanistan, expressed by Firiedman in the Times, is not the same country it was 20 year ago when the US invaded the country. The country needs to regain its economic footing. If it doesn't rule with an iron fist or export revolution perhaps it can reach an economic détente with the US and EU.

    Maybe.

Afghanistan is going to be Afghanistan. The tribes will again begin fighting among themselves and break up into provinces. These guys aren’t exactly city planners and infrastructure builders.

Americans always overstate their "power" on a global scale. If you weren't constantly bragging about that "power" people wouldn't give you a hard time. The lesson here is even the #1 military power on the globe is actually dominated by the rest of the globe. Your only real protection is belief in world peace and getting along with other nations.

Imagine how hard it would be in reality to occupy a country like Iran if you aren't a welcome guest. Yet there are Americans on here who talk about that kind of event like it would be easy.

Sure, but you decided to invade Iraq as a side project despite being told not to by many allies including Canada. Canadian troops supported your Afghanistan projects while idiots on here made fun of the Canadian military. Canada is one of your most important allies for a number of reasons including a giant buffer against Russia. This is why so many just don't like you at times.

With friends like the US the Taiwanese are not sleeping well tonight. If China attempts a takeover of Taiwan do you think the US or EU will rush to her defense?
The US doesn't even have control over its own southern border.

So I’m not bragging about power. I am defending American power.

I get that there are a lot of America haters around the world and when something like this happens they are besides themselves with glee.

That’s quite a hypothetical you pose that it would take the whole globe joined to threaten American security. But again this speaks to the strength of America not its weakness. Whereas America is so strong we can unilaterally take out most any nation on earth.

  8. Exactly... why after Vietnam when we learned the lesson that you cannot step in and fight for a people that CHOOSE not to fight themselves or don't care too we do the same shit.

go in..kill Osama and as much Al Queda/Taliban as you can then get the fuck out so we dont have to see those videos of homecomings because a soldier was stationed in a shit sand pile for a year or see Americans killed or injured in a hostile country that only uses us for protection.

Fight an afghan war and have Americans pay for it? I thought Mexico was paying for it.

Hey, FYI you’re attacking America right now, I’m not attacking Canada. And of course people don’t like the strongest, richest country. That comes with the territory. Harping on us because of this is also expected.
