When you short a stock, and the end of the day comes do the settlements have to be compleated or do you hold it just like a regular stock at the end of the day as long as funds are there to cover?
You can hold the short position overnight and as long as you want, except in the rare situation that the firm loaning the stock to short calls it back first. Remember, if you're short a stock, then you are also responsible to cover any dividends.
