short usd/long eur

Discussion in 'Forex' started by oldtime, Nov 2, 2012.

  1. Election creates uncertainty. With uncertainty reduced, people are inclined to take more risk. Have you noticed that there is almost always a rush out of the USD when people increase risk and a rush back into the USD when they want to reduce risk.

Same thing with vote that is supposed to happen in Greece on Wednesday(?), this will most likely work in favour of the EURO.

So, I see an exit from the USD into the EUR. Hence, bullish for the EUR/USD pair.

    I could be wrong though.

  2. well, I'm back on solid ground. First profitable day in NOV. ended up spreading the eur. With a big position in long eur.usd.

I'd still like to get short usd.

maybe I'll add a little over time.

man, glad to get out of the long eur. first week of nov wiped out about all I made in OCT.

but OCT was a very good month, swept 50% of profits and got a nice check.

but still it's depressing to see the account balance right back where it was OCT 1.

one of these days I'm going to continue on my progress from player to casino operator, but in the meantime, I need to stick with what got me here.

and that is 90% money management, and 10% reading the market.

  3. Oldtime, I think you should have held that long. I'm still in. So far its a very nice unrealized profit showing.

  4. I'm still long eur.usd, it's my largest postion

also long some eur.jpy which is pleasantly surprising me

  5. I would have been better off just getting short usd against evereything

and getting short eur against everything except usd

that long eur really cost me a lot

I took the other side on eur.cad and eur.gbp

I need to do the same on eur.aud, that one is killing me

not sure what is going on with jpy, I just entered right so I have a profit in both short usd.jpy and long eur.jpy. I think I'll get the hell out of both of them today.

  6. so that's exactly what I did, I'm out of jpy

    long eur.usd

and then just long aud,cad and gbp against eur and usd

I'll let you know how it goes

hard to get long that aud up here, but I'm small and can add later on when it moves against me and get a better price

  8. Ouch! What the hell happened last night? We went from a decided election and a rocketing EUR/USD to a largely undecided election and a crashing EUR/USD. I doubled up on my long EUR/USD at around 11:20 pm, and woke up to see it had crashed back down to 1.2756. I was playing with a heavily leveraged mini account and watched it get cut in half. Only a $254 lost, but ..... that was not expected, not even close.

  9. buy more? Just keep averaging down. That's the way Martingale did it. And he's a lot more famous than I am.

  10. With maintenance margin of $7.5/1K, it wouldn't take long to wipe out a mini account.

    7.5 + 7.5*2 + 7.5*2^2 + 7.5*2^3 + ........

Can some one remind me please what the formula is for that sum? Oh never mind; I'll go look it up.

    :D
