All hell is about to break loose, and even environmentalist will be anti-ethanol soon. 2,100 gallons of fresh water needed to produce a single gallon of ethanol. http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/e85-boondoggle-of-the-day-2100-gallons-of-water-per-gallon-of-e85/
Add these to your short lists too. ie 1kg of coffee 21,000 litres of water. http://www.worldwater.org/data20082009/Table19.pdf :/
"With ethanol the energy yield is 8:1 for sugar cane, 2:1 for sugar beets, and 1.3:1 for corn." We need to find new jobs and/or new starter plants for these corn farmers. Corn is just not going to do it and sugar cane is a tropical plant. May be they can grow algae: http://edition.cnn.com/2009/TECH/science/07/15/exxon.algae.biofuel/index.html
dont forget ethanol has a captive market. the government mandates it be used. and before the wingnuts start screaming socialism it was put into law under the bush administration.
it wrecks your car too if you have an older vehicle with a carburator. i put some in my collector car and my motorcycle and atv last fall. in just 6 months it gummed up the carburators on them. it has a very short shelf life compared to straight gasoline.
