If one goes to trial with a possible 20 years and ends up with 6 months, that is not guilty as sin... It is basically a win for the defense... Had he got 10-15 years, you would be right.
Judge: “Is it true that you owe these people a million dollars? Shkreli: “Yes, it’s true." Judge: “Then, why don’t you just pay them back?" Shkreli: “Because it wouldn’t be true anymore."
I wonder how Brachman achieved that.. he has this reputation as the lawyer of last resort (if you can pay him) and on this one at least he owned up to it to the last cent. i'd really love to know how... Unless we actually are opining on this with material misstatements and then a lot of people in the media should pay for it.
Shkreli is a modern day folk hero. I wish I got defrauded by him - would have been nice to have made 3X-5X my original investment .
So would you give him your money to invest NOW, when we know that he can't trade for shit? That is the real question not that how lucky his investors were...
No, wouldn't give him $ to invest knowing he trades like most newer traders do. He claimed his hourly pay was on par with working at Starbucks. Managing OPM is not something I would ever want to do - to darn easy to get in a hole and justify robbing Peter to pay Paul.
You don't need to watch the "show" about the Kardashians. The fact that you mention them implies you're aware of them...most likely via the news outlets. I've actually met a few people that have never heard of the "Kardashians", "Tom Brady, "Beyonce", "Pink Floyd", "Charles Manson", "John Wayne Gacy", "Sumatra, Indonesia Tsunami". Yet, I've never heard of anybody losing sleep over them or over some historical event.

Most interesting professional response: " He won't get anywhere near 20 years. News outlets always report the "maximum" possible, but the reality is federal judges hand down sentences based on a "points" system that takes into account a lot of different factors. I'm gonna guess he gets 3-5 years, and serves 80% of it (which is the minimum under federal law and this is a federal case). Source: Am lawyer." Interestingly, my guess in this thread was 3-5 years too....
