I wouldn't do it and you wouldn't do it but if so many people are mentally imbalanced enough to be liberals, I'm just saying... Will be interesting to see what the National Restaurant Association releases, if anything.
You obviously haven't had to pay lawyers to defend a case like this. A lot of business execs start out like you're saying, then they are told they might end up spending several hundred thousand bucks and have their business disrupted with document demands, depositions ,etc, then even if they win, they can recoup nothing. Suddenly, paying someone off for nuisance money seems reasonable, particularly if they have a confidentiality agreement that prevents anyone from knowing how it was handled. The thing that was done wrong here is the NRA should have gone after the women and demanded the money back for breach of the confidentiality agreements. That would have shut them and this dirtbag lawyer Bennet up.
What a great system of justice in the USA today ! Where do we stand on nationwide tort reform again ? Oh, that's right, only Texas and a handful of other states have it. None of the lawyers er...wait, I mean lawmakers want it. It takes away their "candy jar". You bet. This country, POLITICALLY, is no better than Italy !
You are right i havent had to pay lawyers, thankfully i make my money in a business(trading) where i dont have to deal with anyone. Like i said the people i know who are succesful in business would pay the money even when it costs them more, just to prove the point that they are not going to allow people to fuck with them. It isnt a pissing contest, it is common sense, when you operate in such a manner that you bow down to every single piece of shit who wants a piece of you, you are doomed to fail. An example off the top of my head is my buddies bar, where the insurance company didnt want to pay him the proper amount for the loss of business after a fire, even though he was insured for it, he spent 2 years in court and 400k to make back a little less then what he spent, but he was letting the insurance company know that they couldnt do whatever they wanted with him. You think the same insurance company or any other insurance company is going to fuck with him after that? They lost 10 times what he did. You are right that some people just choose to take it and settle out of court but i doubt very much that the restaraunt association settled out of court 3 times in a row just to get people out of the way, if they didnt believe there was some sort of guilt there, at some point they would have taken a stand, otherwise they would have just been hit with 1 frivolous lawsuit after another, you think women dont talk? You think if all these female employees were walking away with free money by making false accusations they wouldnt have talked to all the other women in the office?
I made that point myself. When you have three or four women all claiming the same thing, plus a guy who worked there saying they had to tell Cain to knock it off at a restaurant, plus the radio host in Iowa, you begin to either see a pattern or an implausibly large conspiracy. The other side of it is that all anyone is claiming is that he basically may have hit on some women. He didn't force himself on anyone, he didn't fire anyone who wouldn't play along and he didn't use state troopers to fetch them for him. As for the issue of paying off lawsuits versus fighting them, of course it depends a lot on the circumstances. I highly doubt the association paid off cases where there wasn't at least some credible claim. It's possible they knew Cain was a loose cannon. I predict we haven't heard the end of this however, and that more women will surface.
Yeah, too much to be a hit job. It looks like a pattern. Who runs for President with a sexual-harrassment settlement in their past anyway? Did he think that would not become an issue? Doesn't the GOP vet any of these candidates?
We're back to TORT REFORM. This is biggest problem in America and has a lot to do with the JOBS PROBLEM. Solve the first, and the second is solved as well. Look at all of the jobs "lost" as a result of this insurance company lawsuit !!! It's incredible what the cost of litigation can do to an ECONOMY !
