  1. do you need a series 7 to trade at a prop firm?

  2. yes, if you want to receive the leverage they provide.

  3. is a prop firm different than a daytrade firm?

What are some of the advantages or disadvantages from not having your series 7? Do you get less leverage without it? Are the prop shops that dont require it less reliable? Thanks for any input. Jim

It has to do with how the firm is structured and regulated whether or not licensing is required.

When it comes to reliability and safety of your capital, the integrity and reputaion of the owners is what counts, as well as how well capitalized they are. I don't think you can draw conclusions based on whether or not licensing is required.
