So I heard about this and I got really excited. "The Shining" is by far my favorite horror movie. Jack Nicholson owned this movie. Then I read about what the sequel is about and I'm not getting good vibes. Heeereâs Sequel! Stephen King writing part 2 for âThe Shiningâ Published: 12:46 PM 09/28/2011 | Updated: 12:59 PM 09/28/2011 Thirty-four years after publishing the heart-stopping horror novel, âThe Shining,â author Stephen King is brewing up the classic bookâs sequel. The legendary novelist, who was rumored to be penning the sequel in 2009, confirmed on his website Monday that heâs indeed working on a continuation of the chilling book on spirits, psychic powers, murder and insanity. âItâs now official â Stephen is working on âDr. Sleepâ, the sequel to âThe Shiningâ,â states the 64-year-oldâs official site. âDr. Sleepâs plot includes a traveling group of [psychic] vampires called The Tribe.â Over the weekend, King visited George Mason University, where he accepted the Mason Prize and read excerpts from âDr. Sleep.â According to early reports of âDr. Sleep,â the sequel takes readers through the life of 40-year-old Danny Torrance, a Hospice employee who uses his innate psychic powers to âvisit with patients who are just about to pass on to the other sideâ and helps them die painless deaths. âThe Shining,â which was adapted into a Stanley Kubrick film and 90s television series, follows alcoholic Jack Torrance as he, his wife and son Danny move to an isolated Colorado hotel, where Jack accepted a winter caretaker position. The giant hotel is bursting with bad energy and vibes, ghosts and evil, all of which contribute to the erosion of Jackâs sanity and scare little Danny. Jack undergoes frightening personality changes and spirits flock to his son. The Maine native, who has published more than 40 novels and is responsible for scary stories such as âCarrie,â âIt,â âMiseryâ and âThe Stand,â shed light on what we can expect from âDr. Sleepâ during his GMU speech. King said heâd been mulling over the prospect of revisiting the character of gifted â but haunted â Danny Torrance for a long time. âThis is an idea that Iâve had for some time. I wrote a novel in the â70s called âThe Shiningâ ⦠I always wondered what happened to that kid, Danny Torrance, when he grew up ⦠I kept wondering, whatâs Danny Torrance doing? Whatâs going on with him now? Where did he go after this terrible experience? And little by little, this story started to form,â King said. The book, which is still in the works, âkinda goes back to âwhatâs the worst thing you can think of?â King continued. âI knew that there were bad people in this story that were like vampires, only that what they sucked-out was not blood, but psychic energy from special people like Danny Torrance. And I came to realize that these people were called The Tribe and that they move around a lot.â The authorâs next book, â11/22/63″ hits bookstores on November 8. Some things are best left alone however this miniseries was actually quite good: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shining_(TV_miniseries) steve weber is very good
i understand what you're saying.. not taking anything away from Jack but the transcended any particular actor..weber was great in his own right. following Jack is not an easy gig..but Weber produced the goods.. And i doubt anyone eles could have pulled it off
Dr. Sleep. I'm thinking, worst possible name in the circumstances. How about, "Airport trash 10," or "I know people liked the first one after the movie, but what the fuck, I'm going for gold." Vampires....bit passe, even for Mr. King's reading audience of twelve year olds. Ouch, but there, I said it-everybody is thinking it, I'm just saying it.
Mav, I was at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO two weeks ago, and loved it! I liked the shining too. You should see some of the memorabilia they have there from the movie. Very cool!
