You're right. But the "leftist" blog is just relaying here informations initially reported by Scott Ritter (you know the unpatriotic american who told everyone there are no WMD in Iraq) and Seymour Hersch the famous journalist from the New Yorker who outed stories about the fake WMD allegations or Abu Ghraib weeks before it went public. When it comes to covert/black operations/secret agencies manipulations it is obviously very hard to have hard proofs, but we can draw some reasonable speculations. With the Bush administration its easier to mount covert operations, they can do that now using army units changing the exclusivity of CIA for foreign covert operations. The difference is that CIA must report to a special intelligence committee of congressmen whereas military operations are only known by secretary of defense. US did that in the past and more recently in the 80's (Latin America, Middle East) and the same guys are in charge now. They want a regime change in Iran by ALL MEANS, its not a secret. The easiest one is to overthrow the government from inside with bribes and supporting militant anti-governmental groups. There are softer ways like supporting "democratic revolutions" (Ukraine, Kirghiztan, etc). I don't want to sound anti-american or what, i just want to show you that the states are doing Realpolitik. They're cold -blooded monsters and act politically to achieve strategic goals they think will eventually benefit to their country and their people, and maintain them in power (political or economic). This is business as usual for "big" countries. There is no such as crazy dictators or regimes. They are all rational actors. And you can't count on the supposed neutral western mainstream media to see foreign policy described in a unbiased non-Hollywood way.
This rumor has been on other trading sites also. I think it was based of a large amount of put options or something. Anyway, with large amount of press it has received I think it is highly unlikely anything will happen.
