Come to Brazil, spend a few days in a "Favela" in Rio De Janeiro and see if that statement still holds. I ask you a very simple question: We know that killing people is against the Law and that illegal guns exist. With those 2 things in mind, the questions is: Do you think that someone who is willing to break the law by killing dozens of people for nothing will respect a much "lighter" law such as the ban on the buying and selling of weapons?
I think what AAA is referring to is where do the bulk of these shootings/killings occur? While we have unfortunate incidents like Vegas and Sandy Hook, the bulk comes from inner city drug violence. I don't think they go to their local gun store to purchase guns so banning them would not bring down the bulk of these murders. I don't have data to prove this, its just a hunch.
your question is manipulative. like telling: should we put people in prison, because they will do their crimes anyway. so, close all prisons and let criminals go ahead. it is not about respect. it is about having the opportunity. willing to kill is one thing. being able to do so is a different one. with more shops then Mc Donalds restaurants, where you can buy guns freely it makes things a lot easier for killers. reduce opportunities and there will be less death because a number of killers will not be able to get a weapon, and surely not 40 weapons like in Vegas. in Europe almost all weapons are banned. and we see there a completely different behavior. it is clear that banning weapons would be much better. if there would be a real ban, a lot of these killer would never be able to acquire a gun. there would surely not be 33,000 killings every year.
You actually just ran from the question and ignored facts, as usually people do. The only people who will actually not get the guns, are the people who are not willing to break the law in order to get their hands on guns, if these people are willing to break the law by buying illegal weapons, they will certainly not break the law by doing a mass shooting. These are the so called "la abiding citizens". But a maniac who is obsessed with the idea of killing dozens of people will not measure efforts in order to get the guns or even invent other ways to do it, like bombs and the like, so that his objective is fulfilled.

In what world do you live? Do you think that by banning guns, all of a sudden all the guns in the world will simply disappear? You think that smugglers won't bring them in? As I said in an earlier post, here in Brazil guns are banned and the ban was made A LONG time ago... Still, people die from firearms here in a daily basis, despite the ban. My suggestion is to let everybody live their own lives in the way they wish, and as long as they don't try to force their own opinions on others and live in the REAL world, which has it's own inherent problems that are not solved by "dream solutions" that don't consider logic and facts.
Someone pointed out the Japanese do not have much of a gun/murder problem and why is this ? It is because of a violent history with a martial class system where the masses were violently repressed even for minor things. The USA has never been like this......yet.
