Senate Reform in Canada

  1. We as Canadians must come out against senate reform. Senate reform has many disadvantages, let me outline a few

    - An elected senate will have a political mandate, creating grid lock in government.

-An elected senate without a referendum making it a constitutional change weakens the weight of legitimacy behind our government and the rule of law

-An elected senate would create a lot of unneeded politicking. This expensive process would be a waste of scarce resources.

-In the process of senate reform we could be asked to give up our fundamental right of representation by population in favour of regional interest. We must not allow anyone in this country to become disenfranchised.

    - An elected senate would have to concern itself with re-election losing it's ability to be the voice of sober second thought.
