Sen. Ted Cruz Wowing Them In Iowa

  1. Illegals working for less than the minimum wage? But how do they support themselves? Surely you're not implying they abuse welfare, free medical care, free schooling ,etc and don't pay their fair share?

Yikes, next you right wingers will be suggesting there is vote fraud.

A lot of people will poke at illegal immigrants. Yes, there are problems with them depressing the wage scale by working cheap. In many ways they are victims of abusive employers. (time for eVerify compliance for all jobs IMO).

I will say - in my opinion the hispanic illegal immigrants from Central and South America work their butts off. They abuse government benefits a lot less than some American citizens who refuse to work and completely abuse the welfare system.

  3. Your stupid anecdotal story involving all of $40 a month is proof ?? I think not, you are lying...as usual.

    And your anecdotal story?
Or is it your contention that all illegal immigrants are also roofers?

Did you happen to look at any of those statistics I posted? Illegal immigrants are disproportionally living in poverty. You think that's because they're so highly paid?

  5. My anecdotal story involves 25 years of work in the field as a construction contractor in a field dominated with Mexican and central American workers and close relationships with other contractors like myself. So yes my story is anecdotal but based on much more evidence than maxpad's lawn mowing experience. And my experience is not only in roofing for 10 years my main focus was commercial remodeling and my subs concrete workers and drywall workers were mainly south of the border workers. Max arguing with me about construction and Mexican construction workers is like me arguing with you about flying jets, except I'm not arrogant or ignorant so I won't do that.
Living in poverty does not equal working for less than minimum wage. What companies are hiring below minimum wage and what are they paying? Without proof I do not believe it is widespread and is more likely rare.

Where did i ever say anything about construction workers?

Many fruit pickers also make less than minimum wage, and thats just common knowledge.

Just because your job as a roofer is so terrible and mindless that you need to pay people more than minimun wage to do it, doesnt mean everyone elses is. Alot of low skilled shit jobs like roofing also pay more than minimum wage because no one with half a brain cell wants to do it.

  7. "common knowledge" what is that max? That phrase means nothing except you have no proof. I did roof a couple of summers as a roofer/contractor when I started my business before I switched to just being the contractor. There is nothing wrong with honest hard work max. I don't do any of the actual roofing work now except for a repair now and then. But when I do a remodel job I still do the trim work and hang doors an up until a few years ago I did the framing when I built additions. So yes Max I still do physical work, not as much as I'd like to, running and selling jobs takes up most of my time. Don't be a snob max it's not a good thing.

Let's get back to the basics. I will agree that most hispanic construction workers in North Carolina make more than minimum wage (but less than U.S. citizens doing the same job).

However most hispanic illegal immigrants in North Carolina who do yard work, farm work, and animal processing get less than minimum wage. And yes, the practice to pay illegal immigrants less than minimum wage is widespread - we had several large pig processing plants busted by the Feds for this in North Carolina over the past five years.
