So is the libertarian party. Did you read the article?

Yes. Similar to Rubio's ideas, I thought. I did some searches earlier since I, as you, hadn't heard about wanting open borders, at least in the sense of illegal immigration. Not sure where libertarians stand on fencing the border, though.

I check out lewrockwell.com regularly to seek out articles of interest on the libertarian side and I see nothing from them about wanting open borders. It's just that they are very much against a police state on the borders which many conservatives feel would result in illegals continuing to stream over the borders due to a lack of resources to stop them.

Perhaps a myth to marginalize the group, perpetrated by both left and right establishments.

That's dead on. Today I heard some Mexican clam on the radio saying that she was brought here when she was 2 and a bunch of crap about how its not her fault. Then she went on giving this big guilt trip.

Hey, sorry honey, I wasn't the one who illegally brought you here. The American public didn't illegally bring you her. Your parents did, and if you are in a shitty situation now, ITS YOUR PARENTS FAULTS, NOT MINE.

That's the case most of the time. Libertarian beliefs are often misreported.

  8. I am sure there is a range of opinion among libertarians on the issue. Like the Tea Party, libertarians are not a monolith.

That said, libertarian groups like Cato have consistently pushed immigration "reform" and poo-pooed the costs. A familiar saying has been that labor should be as free to cross borders as capital.

The problem with such noble sentiments is they get bogged down in the real world. Yes, it is a good idea for Mexican farm workers to be able to come in and harvest crops. Then go home. The last part is the issue. At one point they did go home, then the immigrants rights groups and farmers unions got involved and told them, why go home? Stay here and get wlefare. After all, they owe you. this is your land rightfully. They stole it from you.

Immigration activists are actually deadset against guest worker programs. They say it exposes workers to exploitation. The obvious real reason is that of they go home, they can't vote. They can;t have anchor babies, and they can;t justify huge welfare programs.

Like others, I have a ton of time for libertarian ideas, but on this issue they are dead wrong. Unfortunately, it is such a make or break issue that we can't just agree to disagree.

As long as both major parties are paid for by the companies that use the labor, and as long as they continue to blur the line between legal and illegal immigration, it won't matter because it's not going to get fixed. That's the real issue, regardless of ideology.

  10. Where else in the world is anyone concerned about "open borders"? You know, where on the other side is "easy money for the pickings"?

The US is the ONLY place... illegals want to suck from our social systems as well as take jobs.

Who wants to be an illegal immigrant in Iran, N. Korea, Venezuela, Cuba, Russia, et al? NOBODY, that's who.

Poor people want to immgrate to wealthier countries to be parasites.... THAT'S the Bottom Line.

The target countries do not OWE IT TO THE IMMIGRANTS to allow them to suck the wealth from its citizens!!

America needs to set up cross-fire machine gun nests every 300 yards across the Mexican border. Then, shoot illegal border crossers down like dogs! That would stop the illegals issue... just like they'd do in Iran or N. Korea.
