The biggest issue the republicans have with libertarians is the cutting of defense. If republicans just shied away from passing judgment on social issues, yet still clung to defense, they would be that much better off.
Thats the good thing about Rand, he knows that Ron Paul's pure libertarian view was only a loser because of his views on defense spending, Rand is always careful to appear more pragmatic about it though we know damn well he wouldnt be stupid enough to walk us into another war for no reason, and if he could just get himself inside the door he will probably be able to use the power of the pulpit to cut military in areas that are really undefendable by the neo cons, like having military bases in germany for example.
Libertarians are for open borders. They seem to support the Obama/Rubio amnesty bill. That alone disqualifies them from serious consideration. I admire both Pauls, but I think Rand Paul faces a difficult test in convincing voters he is mainstream enough to be trusted with the office. Obviously, I would trust him far more than I would Obama, but the media impose a much different standard on those from the right.
We are? Please post where you get that info from - the stuff about open borders. It could be right but I certainly don't remember seeing it.
