Well this is quite staggering. He was already shot and on the video you see him pull a taser twiardnhin by the wires. Now.. A fired taser is as close to harmless as you can get, what was he going to do, grab the hooks, attach them to somebody and activate it?

4 Houston police officers fired after shooting man on the ground 21 times during alleged mental health crisis
The police chief said the barrage was ruled "objectively unreasonable."

In ways the George Floyd killing was better because at least they were doing an intentional murder, this shooting is just .. WTF?

All of this is true, and as useful as if I were to point out that not everyone goes to bed at the same hour. But what should we do about too many unjustified police killings? I have suggested real actions. But I'm not going to claim they are they only, or the best actions. What I propose won't eliminate all possible ways to kill people, but it would definitely put a damper on the more "popular" ways police murder citizens. Ways such as shooting them in the back eleven times with a high caliber pistol while they're running away or lounging on their couch, bagging them, choking them, or hobbling them and slamming them against the walls of a wildly driven police van. Working cameras with the file sent to the cloud, would go a long way toward ending all of this criminal activity by police if it was coupled with thorough mandatory Grand Jury inquiries led by independent prosecutors. You'd be amazed at how few of the 1100 a year police killings get documented by body cameras. Thank god for cell phones. Police training needs to be completely revamped!

    Yeah, its problematic.

I have two very close personal friends that are Police Officers...both I met when we were all in the military...station @ Fort Campbell Kentucky. One now a Police Captain in Seattle, Washington and the other working in a special unit of law enforcement here in Québec, Canada.

I'm a strong supporter of the Police but many law enforcement in North America and the world need better training that we all admit, better live training, better on the job live documentation (body cams) and a better way to discover / weed out bad characters in law enforcement.

I'm glad you mention the Cloud setup which is something I strongly agree with and my buddy from Seattle actually discussed that with me once on a winter hiking / camping trip to the Olympic National Forest.

He also mention live drone documentation and such is used very limited around the world but only during live investigations / monitoring. It's very expensive too.

If there was going to be a "Defunding of the Police" (resources moved elsewhere)...that money should go back into the community services...

e.g. hiring special people to work side by side with Police to give advice / help Police with the mentally ill and Drone monitoring in the biggest problematic areas of deadly shootings of civilians & Police.

Just as equal, Police Officers need to man up, speak up and stop someone (fellow officer) putting the knee on someone's neck, pinning someone down on the ground in a choke hold while others using restraints that makes it difficult to breath, using spit bags on someone's head with police putting pressure on someone's back (making it difficult to breath) and the horrible practice of using paramedics to medically inject someone that's already restrained via the façade its OK because they believe the person has excited delirium.and super human strength.

Hello...if you have the person retrained do what mental facilities do...put them in a straight jacket for those they feel has excited delirium and super human strength. The mental hospitals personnel are experts in restraining people like that and the mental hospital personnel are NOT armed.

In college, I worked a year with homeless teenagers...a few with mental illness. I saw first hand how poorly trained the Police were with people that had mental illness and how they treated minorities versus white individuals.
    • There's just too many ignorant bad characters in law enforcement.
Police Officers know whom within their ranks shouldn't be out on the streets in the communities...they know whom are not ready, most likely to over-react and has an affinity to violence against civilians. They know.

It was the same when I was in the military. We know whom within our ranks were the bad characters that you do not want serving at your side. These people need to be reported, closely monitored, not allowed in situation they will be dealing with the community and weeded out...literally.

Military and Law Enforcement need to have people that speak up and get rid of the bad characters. You'll be surprise by how many police officers (especially the special units) have better training and have military backgrounds but the special units are not the ones patrolling daily the communities...

Except for in South America. :D

We need people such a yourself to get involved, speak up, and insist that the necessary changes be made. My understanding of what the "defund the police" people have in mind is the same as yours -- diverting some funds to areas that would be helpful to the police. Talk isn't enough we need substantive action.

I was involved and manage a +30 person militia (ex military guys/gals) but couldn't do that anymore with it because I moved to a different country to start a family.

I do still visit and vacation with ex military buddies but not recently due to the Pandemic and the quarantine rules (14 days) when travelling from country to country.

I don't know much about how Police recruit people but I truly believe there will be a great improvement within their ranks if they heavily recruited soldiers transitioning from the military to civilian life...looking for jobs. Use some of those funds from the Defund the Police as recruitment money to military soldiers with special backgrounds looking for employment...

Similar to what private companies (private security), parmilitary contractor, government service contractor do when they hire ex military Rangers, Special Forces, Navy Seals to work for them in global hot spots.
    • Law Enforcement can do the exact same.
Unfortunately, the only ones civilian law enforcement seem interested in are the ones that were Military Police when in fact there's a lot of other types of Officers / Enlisted they can heavily recruit especially when those soldiers transition from active duty to the reserves or national guard.

Yeah, like any business, the diverting of funds needs to be done in a way that it helps the Police and the Community. Also, I'm a strong believer in Police working with Social assistance people that have special training with mental illness, domestic disputes and excited delirium.
    • Just the same, a ton more training for the Police dealing with people in their own backyard or home that are legally carrying their weapons or BB guns or air rifles.
Too many people being shot dead or wounded in their own home by Police over-reacting and not giving the home owner or occupants enough time to determine the identity of those that have kicked in the doors or shooting at them while they play in the confines of their own property that's fenced in.

Bad training is just as concerning as bad charters in law enforcement. A combination of the two...deadly.
