Waiting on results of a brain MRI, been stumbling last several months/having problems writing letters and posts(type and all are garbled and have to reread and correct few times before sending) and have another eye surgery in a month. I am not partial to being on small islands, although I do enjoy Isle of Mann and Ireland.
Get out your old Casio digital wristwatch and set it to peep-peep every hour. Then take 5 minutes away from the screen. More important to make sure ergonomic posture is right for your wrists, neck and back, than damaging your eyes. You can't damage your eyes by looking through them.
Install f.lux. Improves and adapts the colors to have less eyestrain. https://justgetflux.com/ Most monitors let you adjust the color temperature manually. It's best to use a warmer (yellowish) color temperature in dark rooms and a colder (bluer) color temperature in bright rooms. The easiest way to optimize your monitor's color temperature is to use F.lux. This app uses your computer's location to determine whether the sun is up or down, then it automatically adjust your display to pre-determined color temperatures that best match the natural lighting environment. Color temps are measured in degrees of Kelvin, with the scale ranging from 1,000 to 10,000. During the daylight hours, it's best to keep your monitor relatively cool with a default color temperature of 6,500K. At night, the color temperature should be warmer, and around 3,400K. You can adjust your monitor's settings manually, or you can let f.lux make the changes for you. The app also has some presets with specific color temperatures that you can select from. F.lux is free and available on Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS, and some Android devices. I am a daytrader, you seem to be a night trader. Pity you cannot see the charts of the next day...
Not sure when you say seeing numbers and charts in your sleep is a good thing for you or not. When I do day trading, I will be staring at the charts continuously for hours because trading involves full concentration. And when I take a nap or sleep, I will also go through those charts mentally. And this is how to develop a feel of the market, and be in the zone during trading. As long as trading is your passion, seeing charts while you sleep should give you comfort, not distress. ___________
I do just the opposite: black screens ans yellow bars, blue, red and green indicators. White screens are much more agressive for your eyes than darker screens. https://glarminy.com/anti-computer-eye-strain-colors/
As other have said, for eye muscle strain look at something far away as often as possible and consciously remember to blink. Regarding the blue light, besides blue spectrum screen filters or glasses you want to have your monitors in as much natural light as possible and at night use Halogen bulbs for room lighting. At least that's what the ophthalmologist told me a couple of weeks ago.
eye strain is another issue .. But if you are seeing charts in your dreams ...that's a good thing IMO. That means you are completely focused on your trading .. Now it has gone to the unconsciousness mind. I think it helps instead of fighting let it flow .. It used to happen to me long back
Your thread title "Seeing Charts and Numbers in my sleep" is in contrast to your explanation. Thus, if you're actual explanation is the real issue...you're having problems with your eyes after a few weeks of computer work... Go see an eye doctor for consultation...not us that will provide answers to what you stated you're not sure what you can do. Most eye doctor places these days give a free eye exam and make sure you tell the Optometrist your new job whatever that may be. You probably already know this about a free eye exam at your local Optometrist office. Yet, if you're actually talking about (job) something you're doing at home...there's many free articles online about proper computer use...eye distance from monitor, height of monitor, room lighting and other free articles about computer use for those viewing graphics work...the latter appropriate for those viewing charts. My point, you naming 27" IMAC using IB TWS is pointless. In contrast, giving your Optometrist a photo (use your cell phone to take a quick video) of you watching those charts will give the Optometrist all the info they need to understand your "eye problems". Also, you didn't mention your location (city) nor if your source of lighting in the room...it all makes a big difference. I'll explain why, someone else posted just like you just did here in this message post. Later, a month later (yeah...it took him another month to reveal the true details)...his office desk was next to a window that others in the office wanted to keep open...there was nearby heavy construction and the dust from the construction was causing him irritation in his eyes but his co-workers were not complaining...just him complaining. His Optometrist recommended he either move his work desk to a new office with window closed, convince his co-workers to close the window or he wears special goggles while he worked at the desk to prevent the dust from irritating his eyes. In contrast, if you're really talking about seeing charts & numbers in your sleep...go see a psychiatrist or psycho-therapist...seriously...your mind needs rest from your daily chart viewing/studying activities...sleep is a cleanser. A mind that doesn't get the proper rest from your daily activities, you will soon start showing cracks and will eventually result in a burn-out or spectacular blowup of your trading account (loss of your money). If you can't fix this simple problem on your own about your eye strain or mind strain (not sure which you're talking about)...you now know that trading is something that's not suitable for you. wrbtrader
Thanks for the advice. However, I was trying to make the point about the eyes. At times I use metaphors and humor to help get my message out. What I should have correctly asked was if anyone had any advice if you notice any eye strain from looking at a screen too long. I changed some setting on my platform and computer today and it looks much better. I really enjoy trading and find I'm actually becoming a smarter more consistently profitable trader. I want to continue and wanted some advice. I will talk to my therapist though!
