Cool! I guess the next step will be to do the same thing with Presidential elections as well, right? No intimidation, no peer pressure... Local 'community activists' can volunteer their time to go door-to-door in the weeks before the election, and imagine how happy people will be to save the trip to the polling stations! And so convenient, too!! The "same options to vote as before and you are given more choices"! SWEET! In fact, we might even solve the unemployment issue, as community activist positions will be opening up by the thousands. Must be a wonderful world you live in. Still pondering the plummenting union membership since secret ballots were implemented. Why is that? Once behind the curtain, they 'forget' which way they were voting??
I believe unions are necessary when it comes to construction/building trades. The benefit of hiring union labor in the construction industry is due to the call/dispatch system. If contractors need skilled labor at short notice, they can put a call out for journeymen from all over the country. In that regard, construction labor unions are kind of like staffing agencies. They match the worker with the company and provide drug testing, training, background checks, and a larger medical/insurance benefits pool. They also don't get paid time off. I can't say the same for unions like UAW. If you always work for the same company, or work in the service sector, I don't see the advantage of hiring union labor.
If you are only going to say one thing and generalize everything... Unions are bad and kill off companies but unions can help tip the scales back on greedy management and back in the day, they protected workers who couldn't go anywhere else. If you don't like being the "help" and don't like your paycheck, you should go start your own company or own the company you work at via stocks. This bill is a horrible idea. No secret ballots??? how is that free choice. If this passes we will see a lot of "broken legs" in union states. People will magically have a change of heart and vote pro union
