Yeah, that's what the model was in Japan, and we see how well that has worked. Nothing like a 10 year recession to shake things up.

I have never been a big short seller, but people should come to realize that many shorts do a lot of research to dig up dirt on companies. Sold Short by Asenio portrays some unbelievable things that analysis "missed" on public companies.

I don't condone the release of misleading information about companies. Since that is clearly much different that a Merrill upgrade after MSFT misses it's earnings. No selling to the (M)asses with that one.

To SEC and politicians: guys, please close NYSE, Nasdaq, CME, CBOT exchanges! There will be no turmoil, crashes, panic selling, bear market, recession, etc. :D :D :D God save SEC! Please... protect us from damage! We need your help! Protect us from our own stupid thinking!

PS. Or fly to Cuba and Fidel, where you should stay forever in wonderful socialism with no f###in' market.

  3. It would seem to me that if all short selling was banned in order to appease the investors, then things may get real interesting and tight around the collar as they sit and wait to get out on the first bounce of a falling stock! Might not be one !!! if there is no one there to cover, those black bars might get kinda long. SEC might want to think long and hard about something like that.

  5. im hoping that, if they do anything, they will repeal the short sale rule on the most liquid, active stocks. Maybe they can tighten up the regs on stocks that are under a dollar or something.:p

    Hi all,

do anyone think it is the case to organize some kind of protests against restrictive rules (daytrading rules included) and eventual any other stupid thing that they're going to introduce?

It's curious how CEOs and SEC and Auditing firms are fraudulent these days... Why speculator must be punished instead?

  7. There is normally a time of 'public comment' allowed prior to effecting a rule change. You are also free to write the agency and your representatives.

But we all know how hard it is to explain short selling to otherwise intelligent people. The process is fraught with prejudice in many circles. I'll wait until the public comment period, and I don't think I'm going to stirr up a politico unless it can be proven that he understands the process.

What's the use of "public comment" period if noone listens, i read many "public comments" on SEC website prior to Daytrading rule comming in effect, so, what's the use...?

  9. If this is not an hoax, this is very stupid. The short have been introduced after the crash of 1929 for a better stock regulation. Traders should understand that this principle is very important because the market maker use this process for to supply at the demand when the price is racing. These investors are very happy to obtain their shares in bull market and often someone have to short them for to sold at them! Short is used by only 5% of traders including professional as MM, funds managers and prop traders, not very big. And if you check short ratio, usually this is not a very part of the market.

Also, if they eliminated the short, they will do the samething with the put option, because the leverage is bigger than short only!

This is nonsense to eliminate this rule, and the worse that could be happen is to leave only professional do it, not very fairplay and efficient market!
