Finally . . . . . . Nancy Pelosi saves the day.... and where's Moscow Mitch ? . ? . ? . ? on holiday................................................. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just some friendly advice. If you you rummage through trash for information don't be surprised if you end up with garbage in your hands. The Bill is available online if you want to know what's in it.
Europe's response has been as expected. Italy is the worst in Europe and as of my last reading they've test 42,000. Their governments have created systems in an emergency to aid people who will be quarantined (in particular, waiving rents and mortgages for the time period). They've deployed government capital to aid their people. What have we done? 1. Tested less than a 10th of those people 2. Injected 1.5 trillion into the market so orange man doesnt lose his baby 3. Waived student loan debt interest (???) for some reason instead of injecting the 1.5 trillion into paying off underwater student loans 4. No assistance for people who will be put out of work/onto the street when they can no longer work (think entertainment industry, service industry, etc). 5. Blamed Obama and the Democrats for a lack response after firing the pandemic response team 6. Instead of working across the aisle the Democrats are using the virus as an opportunity to push their garbage through on bills 7. A healthcare system that isn't the best 8. Record insurance company profits as more people get tested/get the disease We live in a bizzaro world compared to Europe when we look at the response to COVID. We're borderline third world in comparison. We will likely see many multiples of the deaths in European countries due to our garbage healthcare system. People who are uninsured won't risk getting put on the street by being ventilated so they'll die in their homes. People who are insured won't be covered until they pay their deductibles which for exchange insurance are exorbitantly high. This is the perfect storm of "why American health insurance is the worst on the planet". We will see if we are truly the country "with the best healthcare in the world". I speculate we aren't, and we haven't been for a long time.
Since you obviously have trouble with matters that require thinking let me explain this to you: My post referenced skirmishes and attempts that were made as part of drafting the Coronavirus Bill. The fact that the final bill is online shows where they ended up but does not counter in any way the assertion that various parties made various attempts as reported also in Bloomberg, NBC, Mother Jones, etc. Just to repeat since you ride the short bus to get to the forum: The final bill reflects where they ended out. Complicated? For you, yes.
Ok this is pretty much all financial stuff, and the testing, deductibles, etc... I'm pretty sure they are all covered in this new bill. That aside, we were talking about the "epicenter" which to me implies the # of cases and the degree to which it has spread. This thing is like a month and a half old and its completely new territory... and paying off underwater student loans... wtf does that have to do with the price of eggs? You borrow money, you pay it back G. Period. There's no free rides in this world G. Is what it is.
It's a shame it's not true in general. It's only true for the working class. I wish I could agree with you because if it was true, and we really do have pure capitalism, 2007-2009 would've seen a lot of mismanaged companies go under in true free market fashion. For the likes of AIG, major insurers, banks, airlines, hotels, etc they will all get interest free bailouts at our expense. My statement was hiding that. There is absolutely a free ride if you're rich enough or big enough. The government does not care about it's people. The people need a bailout - in the form of housing assistance, wage assistance, and loan assistance for those effected by this virus that cannot work. We need a healthcare solution for people who are being laid off that could be one of the 18% that need invasive respiratory therapy. This is the single most useful purpose of any size government. America is no longer for the people, by the people. It's for the robber baron, by the few. We are witnessing our plutocracy manifest in real time based on the priorities our leaders have for who to help. Hell, they're talking about contracting WALMART (and therefore the waltons) to distribute free tests to people. Do you think they will set up shop outside or make customers walk through their cold and flu section beforehand? Follow the money. Who's the man behind the throne? Instead of helping Americans we get a 1.5T money dump into the repo market for reasons unknown and a gutted CDC trying it's best to figure out how to contain this. The student loan thing is almost spitting in our faces. How does this help Joe Contractor who can't go to work and build houses because he's caught coronavirus? The coward in chief has no answers for him. There will be no bailout for the weary. Only the stuffed pigs at the top. Will we see TrumpVilles if this thing goes on longer than 4-6 months? Likely. Watch the eviction rate in major cities as the virus spreads. This will not be good.
