I know you are alluding to the "fighting fire with fire" blowing up the well heads. But I saw the "Fires of Kuwait" Omnimax film. Very interesting. Not exactly what one would think.

They blew out some of the fires like a kid blowing out birthday candles. Used the exhaust of jet engines. Very low tech. But effective. The Polish Airforce came through. Amazing really. An amazing film.

And seeing that film would convince ANYONE that trying to deal with Saddam as a human being is a total joke. The insanely vindictive act of setting those fires was a global ecological nightmare. And for what purpose? None! Just a sore loser that set the other little kid's toys on fire when he got kicked out of the game.

It was night time in Kuwait 24 hours a day. The smoke was so thick and dark there was truly no daylight at all.

This guy is more than a menace to the world. Calling him a maniac is an insult to maniacs. There is no way to adequately describe the evil of Saddam.

A professional murderer is running a nation. Even Hitler did not personally murder his victims. Saddam relishes in violence and would enjoy the destruction of the planet. If he has to go, he will take us all with him if he can. So he is special. He requires preemptive action. The depravity of this guy is probably unprecedented in all of history. He makes Khadafi look like Mother Theresa.

So again, while I am against going to war with Iraq, I am all in favor of eliminating Saddam as quickly as possible and in any way we can. To paraphrase Mohammed Ali...."them Iraqis never did nothing to me". It isn't the people of Iraq. It is just one insane tyrant. Why destroy a country and it's people to get one guy?

I almost laughed out loud when I saw this morning's papers talking about letting him take asylum outside of Iraq to prevent war. There is no way he would take a deal like that. He needs to kill and he needs to be in power. And there is no alternative but to put an end to his existence. None.

Peace (may he rest in it in hell)

  4. Your statement is contradictory. What if an invasion is the only way to take him out?

  5. "So again, while I am against going to war with Iraq, I am all in favor of eliminating Saddam as quickly as possible and in any way we can."

    I see no contradiction.

As long as there are alternatives to his removal, who wants war?

If there are no alternatives, war is the only alternative.

You are reaching man. Really reaching in your quest and obsession with RS7. You seem to me to have a habit of focusing on the forest, and completely missing the trees of normal conversations that take place on the internet. These are not legal briefs, these are just a bunch of guys talking.

If Saddam leaves of his own volition, will GW still wage war against the people of Iraq?

    Not likely.

War is the last resort. The debate is over the time frame to come to the last resort conclusion.

Some would give him forever, like a prisoner in California who sits on death row, yet knows that given the length of time that the appeal processes take, he has at least 20 years before he "might" actually face execution.

Bush and some within his administration would prefer to move at a certain pace, others would prefer to move at another pace. The bottom line, is war is an inevitability if Saddam refuses to cooperate with the wishes of the United States when it comes to disarmament.

I really don't know what the right time frame is, as I have not seen all the evidence yet, just the smoke rising from a few guns, and the reminders of the smoke from the oil fires set by Saddam in 1991.

Will Saddam suddenly cooperate fully with weapons inspections and disarm? I hope so, I am against war----however, I see war as a necessary lesser of two evils at certain times.

If it is, then it is. But I don't believe there is not some way short of going to war with millions of people to get just one. But yeah, if that is the cost of saving the planet, then we have to do it. I just would hope and pray that such drastic action can be avoided.

But there is no doubt in my mind that Saddam will take the planet with him if he has the chance. So as distasteful as an all out war against Iraq is to me, I don't discount entirely that it MAY end up being a necessary act. I just don't believe we are at that point now.

So if my statement appears to be contradictory, well, that is a result of two very strong feelings contradicting each other within my brain. I admit I have a problem with this. I can't see in black and white only. Nor do I want to. So I hope for a solution that will be short of war with a nation. But I am not so idealistic as to think it worth the risk of sacrificing our world in the hope of an easy solution. I never claimed to be a pacifist. I just claimed to be anti-war. I hope the distinction is not too unclear. Not too "contradictory". I personally have no problem making the distinction. War sucks. But when there is NO alternative, well then what sucks becomes a necessity. Hopefully we will find a cleaner way out of this mess. It has been done before. Kennedy avoided a war that was a lot more imminent. A danger that was a lot more "clear and present". (and therefore constitutionally permitted a "first strike" unlike what we are facing now).

Hopefully Dubya can rise to the occasion. I make fun of him, but he is the President. And as history has shown, it is the office and the times that makes the man. He is in office now. We can only hope he makes informed decisions and listens to the right advice. Whatever that may be. As you said earlier Max, LBJ had bad advice and took it. Kennedy had bad advice and ignored it. Does Dubya have the strength and intellect to know the difference? Let's hope he does.

    Peace,

  8. Who can argue with an opinion? Everyone has one. You are entitled to yours, as much as I am entitled to those I have formed from my perceptions.

The observers will drawn their own conclusions.
