Keep in mind next POTUS could determine Thomas's replacement. It's why it was so devastating dems sitting out the 2016 election.

They likely wont have the Senate so Biden will have to choose a judge acceptable to Cons.Cons will still have a comfortable majority. When Dems get serious about changing the court and all the damage its doing is worth voting for them.Dems current stance is they are not changing the court by adding judges even if they could. As Logan Roy would say, these are not serious people.

Of course Dems could put an end to republicans for at the nest 100 years or more by making DC and the territories states with simple congressional majorities and the white house but they would rather give the cons the senate every few years.

Ketanji Brown, the sole dissent in this decision (other lib judges voted w/majority to avoid an even worse con opinion/decision) was confirmed w/the current majority Republican held senate. Plenty other SCOTUS in the past have been confirmed w/a majority Republican held senate. Mitch McConnell is not immortal.

Dems had the senate and didn't need any GOP votes to confirm her.Even having her means nothing overall as this threads shows.

Dem voters working their asses off to get Dems elected just to hope to replace Thomas with a judge acceptable to CONs while Cons will still have a solid majority when all it takes is the pres and simple majorities in congress to make the cons on the court irrelevant isn't worth it imo. When Dems are ready to get serious and actually take The SC I'll be voting, volunteering and donating to them as I have done in past. They aren't worth any democrats time to go vote if the goal isn't to actually change the court from red to blue imo.

I was misremembering my vote date and forgot this was during the 2nd session when GOP had lost their slim majority and neither party held (50/50 split). Three republicans joined in the tie break (posted vote count above).

I disagree on not being worth it though. Having her means nothing precisely because it's a numbers game. Do you think it was not "worth it" for Trump to appoint 3 seats? Do you think all the garbage decisions coming out of SCOTUS (including Roe) wasn't worth it to them? Would Hillary appointing judges w/cons' seal of approval have rescinded Roe (keeping in mind Ketanji's had 3 republicans' seal of approval)?

Unless I'm mistaken The VP could break the tie and GOP wasn't needed.

Its not worth it as nothing will change if Thomas is replaced,Cons still have the court. When Dems say we will add 5 new justices to the court the first time we have The WH and both houses of Congress than its worth considering voting for Dems on that issue alone imo.

I did vote, volunteer and donate to the moderate Hillary partly for The SC issue.Unlike her Biden winning in 2024 won't make a difference with The SC.
