Since the polling has only been ongoing for 9 years, we don't know if SCOTUS has been even lower in the past or possibly much higher. But, the recent numbers do indicate that the court has become much more political and activist in its decisions and people recognize this.

The U.S. Supreme Court finished its term with big decisions on voting rights, affirmative action and same-sex marriage. Following those rulings, public approval of the court has fallen to the lowest level ever recorded in more than nine years of polling.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 28% believe the Supreme Court is doing a good or an excellent job. At the same time, 30% rate its performance as poor. That’s the highest-ever poor rating. It’s also the first time ever that the poor ratings have topped the positive assessments. Thirty-nine percent (39%) give the court middling reviews and rate its performance as fair.

  2. As SCOTUS Justices are appointed for life, not much we can do about them.

However, 95% of incumbents get reelected to Congress... even when Congress' approval rating is like 16%.

    How STUPID are we??

Actually there is something that can be done about them. Most of their cases are appelate review of lower courts, so

"the supreme Court shall have appellate Jurisdiction, both as to Law and Fact, with such Exceptions, and under such Regulations as the Congress shall make""

The congress could regulate their ability to review. That's their constitutional prerogative. Will the congress? Of course not. Because mccain and gang would be petrified of what the washington post would say of them.

This has been used and argued in the past. This is an interesting 1983 article concerning the matter.

SCOTUS justices can also be impeached.

  7. While I frequently disagree with the Court, at least it works. Congress (as a whole) can't pass a budget, or the farm bill, or the immigration bill (which I don't like) , etc. Congress right now is useless.

congress gets reelected because they whore themselves out for money.

    We should elmininate campagin bribes.

  9. Not surprised Obama has a higher approval rating then both The SC and Congress who are both majority republican.

  10. What America NEEDS is "term limits".. and that be ONE FARKIN' TERM!

Get elected and go to DC to do what's best for the country and nothing other.

In Russia, they always vote for the incumbent. Why? They say, "because they have already stolen".
