Like BSAM says, it could happen, and we either go back to the dark ages or it gets repleaed poste haste. Then we either find other markets to trade or go get jobs. The pendelum has swung to far in one direction, now it's swinging back in the other direction.
Is that all you got??? You paste a web-link to "60 Minutes"? How old are you anyway? Please feel free to tell me why the Commercial Paper market is "frozen" and has seen $100 billion leave it in just the past 2-weeks, and why the FED took on $73 BILLION in asset-backed commercial paper in the week ended last Wednesday. Got a clue? Congress knows absolutely NOTHING about how the capital markets work, and how that effects the economy. They naively think that Wall Street operates purely in some sort of a vacuum, and that the economy has nothing to do with a company's ability to finance payroll, insurance, raw materials, equipment, healthcare, customer orders, etc. Congrats! You appear to be just as ignorant.
Agreed. anyone who has a mortgage is now at risk for loosing it. anyone who needs healthcare is now at risk of their hospital closing. anyone who wants to retire may now not do so. Celebrate? How happy will you be when you go to the bank and find that you are not able to withdraw money....this is after you have lost your job.
The point is, this ^^^ is going to happen eventually regardless of what we do. So let it happen today or let it happen at some point in the future with a greater degree of magnitude. We all are going to suffer, we need to suck it up and hang on. Our free ride is over, foreigners are not willing to finance our free for all anymore. Our financial system is out of control and we need a change. Before too long we won't even be able to afford the interest let alone health care or military.
Landis, you are the clown. You may actualy believe in what you are typing, but you do so because you have no faith in America and you have no faith in the American people. REgardeless of all the bullshit written and said about the America and its people, the sky has not fallen. We will get through this, albeit with some pain, but we WILL get through this. Our country is strong enough to withstand this without giving free handouts to the bankers and lenders. We are being fearmongered into this bill like a herd of sheep. I am proud we proved we are not just sheep today. They failed today. Lets hope they fail tomorrow , and the day after.
You naively assume that this credit market issue is simply a problem effecting the United States. Think again.
Blah, blah, blah. No facts, no examples of what is going on in the credit markets . . . And once again, absolutely ZERO understanding of what makes the economy tick.
