Are you for real? DeSantis said mask mandates will not work, because it is not enforceable. Scientists say places where mask mandates have been put in place, it has worked. With every post you are perfecting the role as the Florida Man
Please show me the exact quote you are referring to so there is no mistaking what we are debating. As I've pointed out before, you've misquoted DeSantis in the past so you aren't exactly trustworthy.
Your original claim, which I suspected to be bullshit. And it is bullshit. I went and found the video press conference from DeSantis and watched the whole thing. Feel free to watch, but you can skip ahead to his comments regarding masks at the 19:20 mark (counting down) on the video when he is asked by a reporter about it. What he says - quite clearly to anyone being honest - is that enforcement of masks would backfire. He says we have seen some localities impose mask requirements on the population and they will have to figure out how to use "the long arm of the law" to enforce it. He also says "businesses will require people coming in to wear masks, which is fine but a lot of what we're seeing with younger people - if they're partying at someone's house, they're probably not wearing masks. Let's just be honest. You'd have to change behavior there (in regards to enforcement). Businesses do a good job of creating a safe environment and a lot of customers want to see that so they have every incentive to do it. We're going to continue to put out the right guidance and expect people to make the right decisions." Then at 10:49 (again, counting down). Someone asks him again about a mandate. He brings up the mandate on restricting gatherings of more than 10 people that is still in place in S. Florida. He asks the group if they saw any "Gatherings" of people greater than 10 out there. They laugh. He points out that this mandate was ignored and impossible to enforce, nor did anyone try to enforce it. "The idea that you're just going to mandate and selectively prosecute isn't going to work. What is going to work is to educate and inform and consistent messaging on what people can do to protect themselves and others." Lastly, he mentions that there are sheriffs in parts of Florida that have stated they do not have the capability to enforce mandates and wouldn't try to. That's all he said. Everything. Which part of his comments were "anti-science"? Was it the part where businesses are incented by their customers to do it? Or perhaps it was the part where local municipalities would have to figure out how to enforce it? Ooooh...I know, was it the part where he said the young people (who are the vast preponderance of the cases right now) who are getting it at parties and the like would be hard to police a mandate on?
Yes, this is what an anti-science politician would do. Ignore scientific research supporting the position that mask mandates work, and argue that they do not. And fanbois such as yourself continue to support the same. Yes, there are many mandates that work Seat belt mandates work Booster seat mandates work Mandates requiring minimum age proof for alcohol purchases work ... Mask mandates work. Except in the view of anti-science politicians such as DeSantis and fanbois of DeSantis such as yourself. People like you are dangerous to rest of us.
Yes, you tried this argument here once before. It was a false equivalency then, and it is now. My response is still the same. First, Seat Belts, Booster Seats, etc...are laws passed by elected state legislature. And they don't always work either, as many times people break the law and get away with it. Please show me proof that mandating mask usage vs. advising people to wear a masks works. Please show me any example of where people were arrested for not wearing a mask. I'll even settle for any evidence showing police enforcing mask wearing outside a random case here or there. Do you have any study showing this changes behavior? Do you have, like, anything at all other than your impotent rage?
Your modus operandi seems to be to ask others to google for you. Not happening. You can do it yourself. There are studies done on mask mandates and comparing them to infection rates. Can you explain why you are against a mask mandate? While you are at it, also explain when you decided to become a fanboi of DeSantis?
I would think everyone's modus operandi should be to ask someone to cite something they claim is factual or proof if the person they are citing it to does not accept it as fact. It isn't like you're saying "the sky is blue" and I'm asking you for proof. You're making claims someone said something or that something is science, and it has been proven you misquoted (deliberately, is my guess) what was said, or took it out of context or are referring to "science" that isn't universally accepted. So yeah, you need to back your statements up. Your problem is that you pull these things out of your ass and can't provide backup and then claim umbrage when asked to back up your (incorrect) statements or when an obvious political narrative is exposed. I am not against wearing masks, but am against a mask mandate for the same reason the governor is. I do not believe they can be effectively enforced, and all they do is take blame off the politicians and on to the police (and the police ignore them anyway). Police are worried about making traffic stops in today's world and you want them to try to arrest people for no mask usage? What a joke. Not to mention the governor doesn't see the need to impose a mask mandate on small Florida towns with 2 cases that couldn't enforce the rule even if they wanted to. Which I also agree with. Let the municipalities decide.
This is the difference between leadership based on science and leadership based on some arcane beliefs such as racism. The same governor had no issue in citing Hispanics as the problem of this COVID case increase, against all evidence while he is against a mask mandate against scientific evidence. Yes, I do have backup. No I am not googling it for fanbois.
I saw this quote. There was nothing racist about it. This is what I'm talking about with your lunacy and quoting people. He said: “overwhelmingly Hispanic” day laborers and agriculture workers are the source for Florida’s recent surge in coronavirus cases. “Some of these guys go to work in a school bus, and they are all just packed there like sardines, going across Palm Beach County or some of these other places, and there’s all these opportunities to have transmission,” DeSantis said during a press conference in Tallahassee. None of this is racist. These migrant farm workers travel from state to state. These are exactly the conditions in which they work. The Strawberry farms right outside Tampa are a perfect example of it. A farmer goes into town, tells a "foreman" how many he needs, and they get a truck or bus loaded with these guys to come pick the Strawberries. What is the racist piece I am not seeing? But members of the tightly knit agricultural enclave say it isn't the farmworkers’ fault that they are getting sick. They maintain the federal government has deemed them “essential workers” and the state has been slow to provide the community with the resources farmworker advocates have requested to slow the spread of the highly contagious virus. The community actually agreed with the statement! They claim it isn't their fault (and I don't believe it is). Antonio Tovar, executive director of the Farmworker Association of Florida, accused DeSantis of ignoring pleas from a coalition of 50 groups that asked the governor for help in late April. “We sent this letter to the governor more than two months ago and now he is realizing that foreign workers are more suitable to get infected. That is very shameful because he was advised, he was told when we sent the letter,” Tovar told The News Service of Florida on Wednesday. The letter asked DeSantis, Florida Cabinet members and state lawmakers to expand access to COVID-19 testing in rural areas, provide more personal protective gear to farmworkers and offer alternative housing options to workers who live in crowded conditions. Now a question for you. Please show me the scientific evidence that a mask mandate works. Since that is your claim.
