  2. Its not just the left and center political entities that support the present global climate predictions , Big Money is also in on the act as they see all these wonderful opportunities for carbon offsetting, trading and hedging.

  3. that may be technically true... BUT

Politics has infected everything else in society including the courts, the clergy, and only a true believer would have thought it hadn't infected science.

Now we have the proof. How they can still ignore it and talk about their peer reviewed studies ought to be made into a case study somewhere.

  5. .... peer reviewed studies ought to be made into a case study somewhere.

    With politcal motive, of course.

Imo, what differs now is the chain of influence is complete.

Please describe how big money profited from the cap and trade technique that was used to move leaded gasoline out of the marketplace.

  8. Big Money is not willing to have all their eggs in the one basket and they know oil based fuel products has a good shelf life and is in no way going to disappear anytime soon. Goldman Sachs, Merril Lynch and a host of others have partnered with CME which is prospective clearing house for carbon derivatives. Goldman have also invested in the likes of APX which certifies carbon and emissions offset certificates and NYSE Euronext has a 60% stake in the environmental exchange BlueNext.

  9. Heavy manufacturing, oil and gas and non nuclear power generation industries are putting money behind anyone that will oppose carbon taxation or cap and trade and in the US the Republicans are the party of choice for those industries.
Banking and finance however see opportunity in any carbon reduction or cap and trade scheme and never ones to miss an opportunity and given the fact that their traditional markets have taken something of a pounding in the last couple of years they will be solidly behind any party that proposes carbon trading and that be the Democrats at the moment.
The scientific community seems largely convinced global warming is a fact but differ on whether man is making a significant contribution to the phenomenon. The aye’s seem to be leading and the no’s as yet lacking a convincing argument even with the knowledge that some climate data has been misrepresented. The BRIC's with their growing economies are putting up a fight on cap and trade but the ever speculative Chinese will no doubt take part in any scheme once they feel their manufacturing industries carbon emissions are near peak.
