It's important to know the major weightings in the indexes because certain stocks' movements can affect the index, and actually lead the futures, like MSFT & GE.
Exactly, and the funny thing is, if a stock comprises 10% of an index then it seems to lead the corresponding index future 10% of the time and be lead by it 90% of the time.
