That sux, in that I'll probably be dead before he gets out. That is not fair. You younger folks out there, assure that in 2049, that guy never again is able to access anything online. Oy!
And... what is Caroline able to access? Any limitations? I suspect a lot of firms are needing her skills in risk-management.
Up to 50% through the First Step Act, so out in 12.5 years is possible. 12.5 is closer to what he should actually have been given. 25 years is ridiculous.
Well a few billions (that is a thousand million) here and there eventually ads up. If punishment doesn't increase with the value stolen, why wouldn't anyone just keep steeling in such a high position? The return/reward makes it worthy!!! I think perjuries he did during the trial and lack of guilt shown also contributed to the sentence. If I am the judge and I know he can get 50% off, I would give him even more. What is the point of harsh sentencing if half can be just wiped away?
The same reason the judge didn't give him the 50 years the prosecutors had asked for: The judge doesn't believe 50 years or even 25 is fitting. It's only money. He didn't rape, he didn't kill, he didn't molest a child, he didn't steal at gun point, he threatened no violence. He's basically a politician without the campaign committee.
Yet somehow he still gave him 25 years. You say it is only money, until it is YOUR money. For me everyone who invested in crypto AND a Bahaman exchange was a moron and deserved to lose it all. But I am not that evil and steeling is still steeling. So tell me what would you give to thieves of 1M, 10M, 100M and 1 B dollars? Just curios...
As for Shitshinsky, people were pegging him for around a 20-year sentence just recently. But we'll still have to wait until September for 'his' trial.
He gave him 25 years knowing he probably won't serve more than 12.5 to 13 of it. If not for the First Step Act, maybe this judge wuld have given him only 15 years, which under the old guidliness also would then have gotten him out after 12.5 years. He's a dumb kid. He should spend the rest of his life in jail for this? Give me a break. Sex offenders don't get that much time.
