Santa Claus Rally: 40% of the Dow’s Yearly Gain in a 17-Day Stretch

What is the biggest weekly move for the Dow? Although it moves in 2 hours, on a weekly basis, returns tend not to be 2 hour moves times 4 times 7. i.e. the market spends time retracing.

 

My point was that with today's volatility, 3.5% is nothing...

 

Buying the Dow on Dec 21, and selling on Jan 7, has been a loser in 3 of the last 4 years...
Though it was a winner every year from 1997-2003...

 

Also, for the last 10 years, the average loss for the Dow (basis the March futures) in the month of January was -188 pts...
