you get clients (i.e. "book") and when they want to trade, they call you and you execute their strategies. it involves a lot of selling, pitching, taking the client out to eat, etc.. to get clients. Consider it a high class broker, but with the ability to execute orders for the clients. You can also route them to pure "traders" on the desk, in which their primary focus is purely executing orders.
