This is how Putin answered the question of whether Ukraine would be able to exist as an independent state in the future. He also stated that the Ukrainians blocked the water supply to Crimea, so the Russian troops "had to go in and supply the water to Crimea."

If we use the same logic our comment would go like this: The Russians blocked the gas and oil supply to Europe, so NAVO troops have to go in and supply oil and gas to Europe.

  2. Russian "military expert" sweating here arguing for carpet bombing Ukraine with nukes. Not the most creative idea.

Not sure how helpful all that talk is. Yeh, it scary but it probably equally or more scary for the Russian people. Even the Russians who are still in a zombie trance-state are savvy enough to know that the west would respond in some way that would downgrade their lives, if they still have one after the response. Probably a year ago the average Russian thought that their leadership and military were smart, capable, and invincible. Not so much now. Most/many are probably thinking "well, you fucked up everything else related to Ukraine so what reason is there to believe that you would not fuck up your nuke plan too and leave us even worse off?"

‘No other option': Russia pundit urges Putin ‘to conduct carpet bombings from the air’
Russia has between 1,500 and 2,000 tactical nuclear warheads, 10 times as many as the surrounding NATO forces, with their deployment capable of destroying whole cities.

  4. The last time Putin started saying and doing funky nuclear things over near the Nordic states, Nato picked up two new members.

Not sure who he is trying to recruit now. Ireland or maybe Switzerland. Wayyy to go Vlad.

    Idiot.

I have said several times that before this thing is over, Ukraine will have a non-Nato but western funded military base at Kherson. Keep it up Vlad. Because if you want a Ukrainian military base at Kherson, you are doing everything necessary to have Ukrainian military base at Kherson. Howz, that work out with your goal of not having any western military presence on your border?

Also, Ukraine will be docking cruise ships at Sevastopol since the Black Sea Fleet won't be there.

    Idiot.

Putin has sneakily made a military coup impossible in Russia.

That's because coups in Russia are inevitably accompanied by transmitting "Swan Lake" ballet on TV. Due to sanctions, there is now a severe shortage of ballerina shoes ("pointes") - because the domestically produced ones are horrible quality and western ones are interdicted due to sanctions. So - no "Swan Lake", no coup.

Another piece of good news in Russia: the queues for transplanting organs have gotten a lot smaller. What used to be months and years now is days/weeks.

  8. Russians surrendering. Good move on their part.

As I said in an earlier post, there is a lot of tough guy talk in Moscow about how the Russian officers will shoot all the soldiers if they retreat and surrender, and there is some of that. But in reality a lot of the soldiers are just wandering around out on the front lines and are lucky if they see an officer once a week. A truck just drives up and down the lines and dumps out some soldiers and an officer tells them to protect that area. Then drives on further and dumps out another crew. Rinse and repeat. Creating lots of opportunities for them to surrender.

  9. CROCK ALERT!!!!

This bit about Putin announcing the achievement of its mobilization goals and that it will end mobilization sometime in the next two weeks is such a complete and total crock of shit.

The truth is that that whole mobilization process has resulted in total chaos and collapse of their ability to process recruitment and training. I remember shaking my head a couple weeks ago, when Putin announced the annual conscription ON TOP OF THE MOBILISATION and asked in a post how the hell he was going to accomplish that. The answer so far is: He can't.

The only reason he is announcing the end/pause of mobilization is that he postponed the annual conscription by a couple months because the mobilization recruitment and "training" already had the system overloaded and reduced to a total clown show where people were being conscripted who had already been mobilized or vice versa and so on and so forth. Total collapse and clown show.

Now, even though it was previously delayed, the conscription of 120,000 troops is back on and they have to deal with it. Otherwise, mobilization is not being ended just because Vlad achieved his goals. NOT BY ANY FRIGGING MEANS. He would love to be conscripting AND mobilizing even more but the system has collapsed- and both processes (mobilization and conscription) are competing for the same limited number of bodies. Of which many are now in Georgia and Turkey and elsewhere.

Frigging mess. And, as discussed, no equipment to go with them anyway.

Putin is getting major pushback at home for this mobilization and now - under the cover of saying that he has met his goals- he is backing down. The reporting on this has been pretty poor and some of the media needs to up its game a bit.

This article below pretty much gets it right, mostly because it comes from the ISW, which is where Jack Keene, David Petraeus are so they see the bullshiite going on.

It appears that the mobilization in Russia went poorly. It was disorganized, nearly is causing a revolt, triggering nearly a million Russians to flee the country, and basically is not helping to stop Putin from losing in Ukraine in the short term. Putin is likely easing off the mobilization to avoid outright riots and potential loss of his power.

Let's take a look at some more context and events around the mobilization.

Officials in Moscow are quitting after one of their own was killed days after being mobilized.

'Mass exodus': Putin faces revolt from Moscow officials over Ukraine mobilisation orders
Russia's Ministry of Defence says 300,000 men will be conscripted initially, but activists claim that the Kremlin is focusing disproportionately on drafting ethnic minorities.

Putin's allies are sick of ethnic minorities being treated as second class citizens and cannon fodder in the mobilization.

Even female doctors, nurses and medics are fleeing Russia to avoid being called up. The call up is not limited to males.

Russia has actually called up 2 million, not a mere 300,000. Many did not show up.

Russian Federation has 2 million mobilised at hand, with potential total of 29 million

Of course, the military mobilization centers are continuing to be burned.
