Russia is forcing people in occupied territory to take Russian passport.
After that they force all men to fight for Russia against Ukraine as they are considered now as being Russian.

According to Novaya Gazeta, classified 7th paragraph of Putin's decree on mobilisation put number of mobilised at 1 million. So not 300,000 but 1 million( and more to come later). Putin is doing this in steps to reduce the resistance in Russia.

So the plan is to hold fake referendums in the seized Ukraine regions, declare the Donetsk and Luhansk as part of Russia, and then defend the regions with nuclear weapons since now they are part of Russia. That's a bold plan you have there, Dmitry.

Russia's Medvedev: new regions can be defended with strategic nuclear weapons
    https://www.reuters.com/world/europ...ns-can-be-used-defend-new-regions-2022-09-22/

Former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev said on Thursday that any weapons in Moscow's arsenal, including strategic nuclear weapons, could be used to defend territories incorporated in Russia from Ukraine.

Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, said that referendums being organised by Russian-installed and separatist authorities in large swathes of Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory will take place, and that "there is no going back":

"The Donbas (Donetsk and Luhansk) republics and other territories will be accepted into Russia."

Medvedev said the protection of all the territories would be significantly strengthened by the Russian armed forces, adding:

"Russia has announced that not only mobilisation capabilities, but also any Russian weapons, including strategic nuclear weapons and weapons based on new principles, could be used for such protection."

The referendums due to take place in the Russian-held parts of Ukraine's Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia provinces, as well as part of Mykolaiv province, from Friday are widely expected to produce results overwhelmingly endorsing joining Russia.

The votes, being organised at a few days' notice under military occupation, have been labelled shams by Kyiv and its Western allies.

If formally admitted to the Russian Federation, the occupied territories, where Ukrainian counteroffensives have gathered pace in recent weeks, will under Moscow's nuclear doctrine be entitled to protection from Russian nuclear weapons.

Moscow does not fully control any of the four regions it is expected to try to annex, with only around 60% of Donetsk and 66% of Zaporizhzhia regions held by the Russian army.

Medvedev has regularly issued aggressive statements on the West and Ukraine in recent months, underlining his transformation from apparently Western-minded liberaliser as president from 2008-2012 to strident geopolitical hawk.

  4. How does Cabin Boy Medvedev know how the vote is going to go?

They have not even had the vote yet.

Or should I say "the special voting operation."

Some of those poor Russian bastards in those regions have outsmarted themselves. They supported the Russians before the war and since Russian invaded there have been nothing but extremely, extremely pitiful stories about how the locals have been pressed into service and killed. Just people taken off the streets and sent out to the field. Mariupol also leaned pro-Ruskie in its local elections before the war. Russia reduced it to a parking lot and sent its kids off to camps, and I do not mean summer camp. Is this what they wanted? I doubt it.

  5. Where it gets messy, is that I am not convinced that Putin wanted to do this mobilization. He resisted it for a long time- and hard. Then the nationalist hardliners started threatening his leadership so he ultimately caved in. Putin knows that this mobilization thing is going to have lots of unintended consequences.

Putin has had big problems implementing his own stupid plans, now he is implementing other people's stupid plans. The hard right is forcing him to crank up the nuclear threats too but Putin knows that - while some of that is okay- too much is not. One little nuclear "event" and he is out of power. Even the threatening has serious consequences. He threatened Finland and Sweden with a nuke attack and now they are NATO members - or soon to be. Not what Vlad wanted.

    What a mess.

  7. I wonder what the relationship is between Russia and Israel? Early in the war, Israel sent a delegation to Russia, but details of that meeting were never publicly released, as far as I know. CNN is connected to Israel and has been supportive of Ukraine in the war. I can imagine Mossad as having contingency plans if not actually working an active plan right now involving the Russia-Ukraine War. I say this because Mossad’s capabilities are particularly impressive and they have been known to think outside the box in achieving their goals. While understandably Mossad would want to avoid attention, it is hard to imagine they are doing absolutely nothing.

  8. Good. And the universities in St. Petersburg and Moscow should require all students and faculty to present themselves for service.

This is not Siberia's war just because that is where they get their cannon fodder - so far. If the people have enjoyed watching the war on Russian TV and cheering Putin on, then fine. Let them start enjoying it from the front lines. And if they or their son are killed, then not to worry. The Russians pay 176 USD but in roubles to the family. So it is all good.

    Conscripting the protesters?

Russia drafts anti-war protesters into military amid nationwide demonstrations: monitoring group

    CNN —
More than 1,300 people were detained across Russia on Wednesday for participating in nationwide anti-war protests – with some directly conscripted into the military, according to a monitoring group
